The New Sport I’m Playing

I know I don’t really look it but I played a lot of sports growing up. It’s something my parents had always encouraged me to do and that’s the wonderful thing about school too. PE lessons give you the opportunity to learn all sorts of different sports. One of the things I enjoy the most has got to be the 200 meter dash. I can’t even remember when was the last time that I actually ran as fast as I could on a track or a field. Somehow as you get older you tend to get more afraid of falling down and getting hurt. So even when you’re in a hurry now, yeah you run but you never really run all out like you used to as a kid.

Anyway in school I played everything from football to volleyball to even this thing we used to play called “Captain Ball”. But the one sport I’m good at is table tennis.

Untitled

At a young age my Dad made sure I had table tennis coaching. Why? Because table tennis is like a Tiah family sport. My grandfather played it, my Dad plays it and now my whole family plays it. So my sister and I will train 3-4 times a week. Training table tennis is different from playing table tennis. Training is like you hit one same stroke over and over again for like an hour until you get it right.

It paid off though. In school I became the Captain of the school team and I won many little trophies like this.

Untitled

The first time my name ever appeared on a newspaper was on this Chinese newspaper that announced both me and my sister’s name for winning Gold medals in our Kelawai Zone MSSPP Tournament. When we went to state level though we got our asses kicked.

That never stopped my Dad from making sure I got trained though. Even when I studied in London I played for my university and during my summer vacation my Dad would get the Malaysia No1 player to train me for a month straight.

Funny enough though, even though I’m pretty good at table tennis, it’s not the sport I enjoy the most. I enjoy playing badminton the most (even though I’m not very good in it). I like it much more than table tennis because it’s a lot more simple. In table tennis you have to evaluate each serve your opponent gives or each ball he returns for the amount of spin and the direction the ball is spinning. In badminton though, you just have to make sure you get to the shuttlecock in time and hit it. So I find table tennis a lot more stressful and badminton a lot more leisurely. I have no doubt of course that it’s really hard to play good badminton like Lee Chong Wei but well just for leisure play, I find badminton easier to pick up.

Recently though I managed to sprain my wrist. So I had to stop playing badminton for a while (and even table tennis). The only sport I could then play is something that my friends like Pierre and Sam Tan (follow them on Twitter btw @pierrepang and @samCS10)  have been asking me to play for the longest longest time. It’s called…. Golf and here is Pierre taking a swing.

Untitled

Yes Yes I know. I like many others before me, always wondered why golf was considered a sport. But it is and now that I’m taking golf lessons I can kinda see why. You certainly don’t get any of that cardio exercise but it takes a lot of body movement. Surprisingly, I actually find it really fun. Pretty addictive when you get the swing right.

The friends I have who play golf though are extremely passionate about it. So passionate that they’re very persistent in getting me to pick it up. I always said “Ok ok one day one day”… but before that one day came, Pierre got impatient and dragged me to a Golf Pro shop and forced me to buy some clubs. He knew that if I had to spend money on clubs then I was committed and had to play. He was of course nice enough to give me his old irons so I saved some money from that.

Untitled

Sam wasn’t any better influence. He once sent me an SMS and asked me to commit to golf by buying a golf club membership. Something I probably have to sell a kidney or something before I could afford it.

So golf is the newest game I’m playing. It’s really pretty fun even though I haven’t taken enough lessons to play on the course yet. All I’m doing so far is just practising swings at the driving range and even then it’s fun. I can’t wait for my first golf game. Pierre promises that I will love golf. So far he seems right… but we’re about to see for sure 🙂

How My Dad Became the Friendliest Person on Facebook

If you notice, I hardly blog about my father. It’s not because my father doesn’t play a big part in my life. Quite the opposite really. He plays a very very huge part in my life growing up and even up till today. The thing is that my father is a VERY private person. He accepts that I blog and reveal things about myself sometimes but he made me promise never to put his picture on my blog.

So my Dad has always received very little coverage. But today I’m going to talk about him a little bit. My Dad came from a fairly poor family. He spent many of his years building a career trying to provide for my brothers and sisters and he did a fantastic job at that. He’s traditional in many senses. So much that every Chinese New Year I would have to kneel down and serve tea for him as his son. Something that I enjoy actually.

As traditional and old fashioned he is, my Dad keeps up with technology. He’s on Facebook, uses an iPhone and uses all sorts of apps regularly. Most of it he learned on his own. So his birthday is coming up this week and my brothers and sister and I thought that it might be a good idea to buy him a new phone. We were at first thinking about an iPhone 5 but when I asked my Dad about it he said that he wanted a Samsung Galaxy S3 instead. That kinda worried me a little. Because as much as I am a fan of the S3, I acknowledge that the iPhone is a simpler phone to use. But my Dad’s reasoning for not wanting the iPhone: “What for? It’s the same as my current phone just a bit longer?”.

Untitled
I guess my Dad is one person unaffected by the iPhone 5 hype and his point was pretty objective. So we got him as S3 and I helped him set it up and showed him the features. After I gave him the introduction on what the S3 can do he said “Wow… really powerful ah this phone”. Then he told me that he already has had lots to absorb and wanted to take an afternoon nap.

An hour later he came to me and said “Tiam (he calls me Tiam)! Help ! I’ve suddenly added everyone on my contact list on Facebook!”.

I realized that when I set up his phone I actually opted to sync his contact list with his Facebook account. So he added every contact on his phone as his Facebook friend. He had everyone from friends he hadn’t seen for years, the plumber, the gardener,  my uncle’s driver or even Polis Diraja Malaysia.

Today my really private Dad unknowingly sent out hundreds of Facebook friend requests. He had people responding to him all day saying “WOW LONG TIME NO C!”.

Today my Dad became the friendliest person on Facebook.

What Happened at #ChurpOut2012

In the beginning of the year, I sat down with the ChurpChurp team here in Malaysia and talked about what ChurpChurp was going to do this year. Our initiatives in the previous years were to marketing campaigns to sign up more users in ChurpChurp. This year though we felt we had enough users and we wanted to do something different. So the idea for #ChurpOut2012 came about. We thought.. why don’t we have this huge festival thing  where social media users from all over Malaysia could come and have fun while also supporting some charities. All I gave was the general direction. The ChurpChurp team did the rest.

They put together an entire event where in the indoor section, we had a bazaar and artists that would draw your caricature . On the outside, fun-fair kind of games that we used to see as kids and of course performance. The date was 13th of October 2012, and it was held at Publika.

Untitled

The following are pictures I took of the event.

We had many performances throughout the day. Everything from the Malaysian Ukulele Club to Manhand.

Untitled

One of my favourite performances then was from a band called Half Past 6. Managed to take a video of them here.

The ChurpChurp team or Churpies as we call them worked throughout the entire week. Spending many many late nights too. The night before #ChurpOut2012 the bunch of them stayed till 6AM to prepare for the event and came back again at 9AM to manage the event. For an event that was expecting thousands of people, they knew they needed help so the Nuffies all volunteered to work on Saturdays.

Untitled

They all took turns to manage game booths, do registration, pack goodie bangs and stuff like that.

I paid a visit to this booth where Angeline our accountant was helping with giving out prizes to the people who won points from the fun fair games they played. Mimi and Rina joined the picture too.

Untitled

These are the kind of fun fair games that we had.

We had everything from this one where you had to throw rings on some bottles.

Untitled

to my favourite rodeo.

Untitled

XPAX was one of the sponsors and they had a booth there that was constantly packed with people. At their booth you could dunk celebrities or anyone who was nominated to be dunked into a big tub of water and ping pong balls.

Untitled

The people who got dunked would get all wet but they could pick up the ping pong balls which could potentially win them some prizes. Things from a LED TV to a Samsung Galaxy S3. So naturally… lots of people wanted to get dunked… and even more wanted to dunk them.

Also in the XPAX booth was a competition where people could paint their own toy Mini Coopers and the one with the nicest paint job would win a prize.

Untitled

Untitled

Here were some of the ones I saw.

Untitled

Or this cute one.

Untitled

I managed to catch a picture with Linora who was the host for the day. She was awesome!

Untitled

In the indoor section of #ChurpOut2012 there was a bazaar.

665631_10151238840545020_1449267499_o

Shorty and Ringo had a booth where they sold Foruchizu stuff and some of their pre-loved stuff too.

Untitled

This was how packed their booth was.

Untitled

There were some other top Nuffnang bloggers there were selling their pre-loved stuff there too. Chuckei had a store.

Untitled

So did Ming and Cindy.

Untitled

And Hanis who is now a host of her own TV Show Mad Markets. Catch if on TV if you can!

Untitled

By the end of the day, they had all sold loads of stuff and Shorty had almost nothing left to sell.

Halfway through the bazaar the Malaysian Ukulele Club set themselves up at a corner and started playing away. Their music is so fun and so damn cute. Makes me want to learn to play the ukuleleif… if only I had some musical talent at all.

Untitled

At the bazaar Delectable had a store too and I saw them selling this… which I bought instantly.

Untitled

It’s so cute so I bought it for Ming. But he couldn’t get himself to eat it… because that would be like eating ChurpChurp.

So that everyone is a snippet of what #ChurpOut2012 was like. The real heroes though are the Nuffies and the Churpies who put this really cool event together. It is today my favourite event that we ever put together in the 5 years we started. While it was one of the most fun events we ever had it was also one of the most taxing on our team. So tomorrow the Churpies won’t be coming to work. Instead, we sent the bunch of Churpies on a girl’s day out (since it so happens that the entire ChurpChurp team is female).

562695_10151128362865020_85709733_n

On their girls’ day out they will be going for a spa, massage, pedicure, manicure and get their hair washed. All fully paid by the company. We want them to get rested. So tomorrow is a day off for the girls at ChurpChurp… and I hope they have fun because they’ve earned themselves a good rest for the work they put in the past few weeks, not just for #ChurpOut2012 but for everything else too.

One last thing. #ChurpOut2012 wouldn’t have happened if not for our partners. To XPAX, BCARD, Durex, Mister Potato and all the rest, thank you for making this wonderful event possible.

If you guys missed out on this… we might do another one again next year (if the Churpie girls are up for it).. so see you guys then.

The Baby Till Marriage Video

So I’ve been in Singapore for the past few days attending a couple of conferences. One of them being Failcon: a conference that got entrepreneurs and VCs alike to come talk about their experiences with failures. I thought that was a really cool idea.

Untitled

Today was spent at our law firm here in Singapore for some meetings and tomorrow will be spent at another conference.

I’ve been meaning to blog about #ChurpOut2012 but I haven’t had the chance to yet. While surfing YouTube though I happened to stumble upon a video from our wedding that I totally forgot to share. It’s one of those video slideshows in most weddings where they show the bride and groom’s baby pictures then all the way till dating… you know that right?

We had that too. Yay! There were many things that we didn’t have in our wedding that I kinda wished we had (like the 3 times yam seng) but oh well… at least we got this.

Our montage was done by Chee Ching. So what do you think? (apart from Shorty being a very cute baby).

When the Nuffies Inspire Me

One of the most flattering things I have ever heard anyone say to me is “you inspire me”. What can anyone say about you that could put you in a higher regard than the fact that you inspire that person. It is an honour to be an inspiration to people. So let me tell you who inspires me. My partner does, my father, some friends of mine, some successful entrepreneurs like Richard Branson of course… but among all, the people who inspire me most sometimes is the Nuffies.

Screen shot 2012-10-13 at 10.10.21 PM

There is an old saying that goes “If you want something done right, you gotta do it yourself”. I don’t necessarily agree with that. You see Ming and I made a decision years ago that we wanted to build a company that didn’t revolve around us. A company that would actually make Ming and I replaceable rather than irreplaceable. That’s why whenever we have media interviews these days, as much as I can I encourage our Nuffies to speak to represent the company, rather than have Ming or I doing it.

So if one day Ming and I disappeared, the company will continue to grow and be stronger.

I struggled with it at first. I struggled with having to let go of things for fear of something screwing up and I struggled to trust people wholeheartedly with every major task. So much that I frustrated our Country Manager Nic Chay who years ago who was meant to run things without me. I kept interfering, trying to make sure things were okay and trying to prevent mistakes. Then one day Ming told me that I need to let go completely and when Nic Chay and his team makes mistakes we just have to deal with it because we all make mistakes.

So I did. And since then our company has grown year after year without Ming and I having to be involved much. Yes we made mistakes. Many mistakes along the way but we worked together to overcome those mistakes. Eventually our company became about building strong teams of people within the company that could work independently and perform well. Sure sometimes those teams make mistakes too and has their moments of underperformance… but overall they exhibit excellence.

The wonderful thing about our company today is that these strong teams of Nuffies in our company sometimes come out with results far better than Ming and I or anyone else we know could have come up with individually. When they do, they inspire me and they remind me how great our company is. A kind of greatness not measured by our revenues or profits or the number of employees we have… but by the work they do and where we will eventually get to with that work.

This week I was inspired twice by our Nuffies:

1) The NuffnangX Video

A week before I asked a small team of Nuffies if they could come up with a video that explained NuffnangX. The video had to be short, had to seem more American than Asian (since we’re targeting the US market) and it had to explain NuffnangX very well in those 90 seconds or so. The small team of people worked on everything from the script to the storyboard and eventually the animation all in a week’s work. They came back to me only for some feedback here and there and eventually this is the video they made all by themselves.

What do you think of it?

I’ll tell you what I think. I love it!

2) ChurpOut

Today I attended Churpout 2012, an event organized by a separate team of Nuffies. Actually they’re sometimes referred to as the Churpies since they’re from the ChurpChurp part of our group.I will blog about that event in the next entry but all I can say is… WOW… I sincerely couldn’t have done it better myself.

Our company will go through good times and bad times… but with a strong team of Nuffies like what we have today (and with God’s will)… we will stand the test of time.

My colleagues inspire me. And that is what keeps me going.

BE AT PUBLIKA THIS SATURDAY FOR CHURPOUT!!!

The team at ChurpChurp have been working late nights the whole of this week in preparation for a huge event they have coming up this weekend. The story behind this is that many months ago, we decided that ChurpChurp should be more about sharing campaigns to earn money or sharing funny things with friends. We wanted it to be a place for everyone who’s connected to social media to get together.

Untitled

So plans for Churpout were put in place and the team at ChurpChurp put together a full day of performances, carnival-like games and even a Bazaar.

Loads of celebrities and Alphas are going to be there. From Daphne Iking, Sazzy Falak, Patricia K, ManHanD, DJ Fuzz, JinnyBoy TV and loads of top bloggers too.

It’s going to be at Publika this Saturday at 11AM-10PM. That’s 3 days from now. So if you’re looking something to do this weekend, drop by! Admission is free and open to everyone regardless of whether you’re a ChurpChurp user or not.

Pierre’s Birthday, Club Asahi & My New Ferrari

Okok! I has been busy and as tired as I am tonight after a long day I decided that I will still pull myself to blog about what I’ve been up to lately.

Here are the more significant things that I did.

1) Attended Club Asahi at Butter Factory.

Untitled

Once again had way too much to drink but was fun hanging out with my Nuffies. Look at the picture above closely. I like how that woman was just chilling and walking past but ended up accidentally photo-bombing us. And credit to the photographer for cutting out half my face from a photo I asked her to take with my own phone.

2) Ming is down in KL for a few days.

Partly to hang out with me and Pierre and partly to accompany me while my Shorty is away on her girly trip to Taiwan. He also happened to bring down a Hot Wheels of my dream car. The Ferrari 458 Italia.

Untitled

Was lucky enough to have a chance to drive it around a track while I was in Vegas and it’s awesome! The most OP car ever.

Sad thing though is that while it is my dream car, I feel less passionate about wanting to buy this one day before than I ever did. I don’t know if it’s age or me just getting married but suddenly I keep feeling that the next car I wanna buy is a Japanese car…. maybe a Camry. That’s a shocker even to me because I used to think the Camry is the ugliest and most uncle car ever. Now… haih… maybe I’m becoming an uncle. Might as well wear a pouch and string a bluetooth headset around my ear the whole time.

3) Pierre’s Birthday

Of course the main reason why Ming was down was for Pierre’s birthday party.

Untitled

Pierre turned 16 yesterday. Well okay he’s older than 16 but lets just keep that as his official age. I have known Pierre for what… 3-4 years now but it’s pretty amazing how far we’ve come in terms of friendship. I just got back from a nice steamboat dinner with Ming and Pierre and the stories we shared, conversations we had were and always is among the best I’ve had among friends.

Anyway this was Pierre’s birthday cake that his wife Lay See got for him. It’s all the things that he can’t live without.

Untitled

His wallet, iPad, Manchester United, Mamee and of course… his Galaxy S3.

Okay now I gotta run. Got a busy day tomorrow and I’m working on something new on a personal end that I will take pictures of and share with you guys in the next few days. Until then. See yall!

What it takes to be a good leader

I think being a good politician in a democratic country is one of the hardest jobs in the world. I say good because well.. it’s not hard being a bad one. What differentiates a good one and a bad one? Well many many things.. everything from abilities, talent, capability, integrity but most importantly… to me it’s the heart to do what’s best for the country and not anyone else.

Doing what’s best for the country is hard. Hard because sometimes the right decisions to make for a country often is the least popular among the very people who voted you in. It’s like when we were teenagers we wanted to sleep late and go out a lot but our parents didn’t allow us that even if we wanted it right? It’s because our parents had the heart and resolve to do what’s best for us… even if it we didn’t know yet that it was good for us.

One such example of this is Margaret Thatcher, the longest serving Prime Minister the UK has ever had and the only female one so far too.

Back in the 1980s while she was Prime Minister she knew that unions and strikes were holding the UK economy back. So she took steps to restrict and eventually abolish these unions, moves that were very unpopular among the working crowd which accounts for a very large voter base. It was unpopular, but she did it and saw it through not because it was good for her… (in fact if anything it was BAD for her)… but because it was good for the UK.

If you want to know more about her life, you can watch the movie Iron Lady.

Closer to home there is another leader like that. His name is familiar to many Asians: Lee Kuan Yew.

220px-Lee_Kuan_Yew

Few can deny that Singapore is what it is today because of MM Lee Kuan Yew. He has made many hard decisions too and one of them I feel… is their openness when it came to immigration.

Now immigration is historically often a politically unpopular thing in most countries. It’s simple to see why. Immigration leads to its own set of side effects. Rising property prices, less job opportunities among the locals and in some cases increasing crime rates. Singapore though has always opened doors to immigration. It’s simple to see the effects of that. How many people do you know who are working in Singapore right now?  And how many people do you know who are working in say… Japan? In fact I bet you know more people who are working in the US than in Japan… because Japan has a closed-door policy when it comes to immigration.

Still in this video I found online, MM Lee Kuan Yew explains why Singapore needs immigration.

To summarize:

1) The fertility rate in Singapore is 1.01. That means every couple only produces one child which is not enough to replace the current population.

2) Low fertility rates are low among developed countries because the cost of having kids is high.

3) An aging population causes economic problems like what Japan is facing.

I respect MM Lee Kuan Yew and I admire him as a leader. I admire leaders who are able to do what’s best for the country for it is leaders like this that leave behind a legacy that no number of monuments or statues or road names of leaders can ever live up to.

PS: This blog post is about what it takes to be a good leader/politician. Sure there are good and there are bad leaders and politicians but lets not use this opportunity to flame the bad ones. Yes there are many all over the world. Lets just hope that the good always outweigh the bad.

Life is like a box of chocolates…

Let me tell you about my Saturday last weekend. It was pretty awesome. Here’s why:

1) Seeing the Nuffies work together to overcome a crisis faced by some of their colleagues.

This Saturday was one of the first Saturdays ever that the Nuffies spent a full working day in the office. What happened was a couple of days before our web host Exabytes which manages a great deal of servers for us had an intrusion in their networks.

The intrusion led to the deletion of 50 of their servers and their backups. Call it bad luck but ChurpChurp was one of those 50 servers that were affected. Fortunately for us though we have a remote backup for ChurpChurp so we had something to fall back on but after restoring the backup we still had some missing information. Some accounts or reports or earnings details were missing.

The ChurpChurp team was quick in responding though. They got the site back up, made an announcement and set up a help desk for Churpers to notify them if they had any missing information so they could cross check whatever records they had and recreate those accounts. A lot of work had to be done though and the ChurpChurp team consist of a team of ten.

562695_10151128362865020_85709733_n

They knew they were understaffed. So they sent out an email to the rest of the Nuffies in the other companies in our Netccentric group and asked for help.

Everyone volunteered to clear up their Saturdays to come into work and help ChurpChurp. It was amazing. Our office was buzzing on Saturday with everyone working on quickly managing and responding to this crisis.

It’s at times of crisis like this where a team is really tested and I’m proud of the way the ChurpChurp team responded to this. The past few days I saw the stress in their eyes but I saw how they took turns to be each others’ strength and put up a strong front. Because of this support they had for one another, the atmosphere in the office was actually quite upbeat. Everyone was working really hard but still moments of laughter broke out throughout the day.

Untitled

The vast majority of Churpers who had notified us of problems with their accounts would have their cases resolved and be notified of that in the next few days. Something that would have taken much longer than the time it took. All thanks to the whole team coming together to work on this over the weekend.

Times like these really make me realize that the core asset of a company really isn’t its website or database or technology or anything like that but is the team.

As for me…. I kinda enjoyed our Saturday in the office doing a little bit of data entry work. I joked that we should do it more often and the Nuffies stopped all they were doing and looked at me in fear. Then I said “No la no la just joking! Work life balance ok!”.

2) Got a new coffee machine!!

I took a couple hours out of my Saturday to go to Publika for this Nescafe Dolce Gusto event there were they let bloggers try their hand at making coffee with their cool coffee machine.

Untitled

The first time I actually tried Nescafe Dolce Gusto was actually during a tea break at a conference I was attending. They had this booth for people to try the coffee from this machine and when I tried it I was really impressed. All you had to do was put a capsule like this that costs RM1.75 each into the machine and you can have all sorts of coffee made.

Untitled

The cool part was that they let all the Nuffnang bloggers there take home a machine each along with 6 weeks supply of coffee. I now have one at home!

Untitled

Woohoo!

3) Singing in the car

Sometimes it’s the simplest pleasures of a day that make me happy. Shorty and I were driving out of KL to buy the Nuffies lunch. We decided that if everyone was going to be working in the office on a Saturday we had to tarpau some really good food! We decided to take a drive to Village Park Nasi Lemak in Uptown.

On our way back we were listening to Jersey Boys in the car and singing along to all the songs.

Untitled

You guys remember Jersey Boys right? We caught it in Vegas and it’s to date my favourite musical of all time (overtaking Wicked).

Untitled

Here’s a sneak peek on the songs we were singing along to.

It’s awesome.

The last part of my Saturday was actually spent in Zouk with my old uni friends. It was a last minute thing. I didn’t know I was going to go for that until like 2 hours before. I don’t have any pictures for that night in Zouk because well.. to be honest I ended up mixing whiskey and champagne and you know what happens when you do that.

I had an awesome Saturday and you know the funny thing was that I never saw it coming. I just thought it was going to be a regular Saturday that I had to spent in the office when I woke up in the morning. Sometimes as Forest Gump says, life really is a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.

Life is full of pleasures. We just need to know how to find them.

How it feels to be married

Today marks exactly two months since Shorty and I got married.

416126_10151078177276969_2122842866_o

I actually can’t believe that it’s only been two months. It surely feels a lot longer than that. This marriage thing just came by and hit me so quickly. Just a while ago I was talking to one of the Nuffies about whether she’s looking to married when she pointed out that she was only 24-25 and too young to think about married. I thought back about the time when I was 25 and I remember feeling the same way. Then just 3 years later I found myself married. Somehow that 3 years from the time you’re 25-28 changes your perspective of marriage significantly. Before that you tend to procrastinate. You think marriage is a long way ahead. Then one or two of your friends get married… and you think to yourself “Wow so fast?”.

And in the next 2-3 years that one or two starts becoming ten or twenty and before you know it… that is the number of weddings you will be attending in a year. Suddenly it will then hit you one day that marriage doesn’t really seem so far away. That it’s actually… pretty close.

418651_255987287853013_2140921190_n

Since I got married two months ago, the question I often get asked when I meet friends is

“So how’s married life?”.

I always just replied “It’s ok…” or “It feels the same”.

But today I decided to really sit down and think carefully about how married life is like. And here’s what it’s like so far.

– I miss the excitement of the uncertainty. I always wondered who the girl I would end up marrying would be like. Now I do know her… I miss the excitement of not knowing who she was but knowing that she was going to come into my life any time.

– I miss the excitement of being single too. You know how when you’re single and you go out and then you meet someone that you’re attracted to… there is the excitement of chasing that someone. The courting game you play where you make moves and she responds and when she does respond… wow does it feel awesome! That doesn’t happen anymore when you’re married.

But on the other hand….

– I love the way my bond with Shorty grew. I mean it’s not like we didn’t have a bond when we were dating for the almost 4 years till we got married but once you get married it’s like you know you’re in it with this person for the long run. Through sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, for anything good or bad that life throws at you, you will always have that someone that will always be on your side. That is a wonderful feeling. Knowing that no matter what, your husband/wife has got your back.

– Some people say marriage is where romance or love goes to die. Maybe we’re only 2 months in but I haven’t seen any of that yet. I still feel the same about Shorty as I did in the first day I met her. Just last week I was busy at work when I kicked back from my computer to take a break and think about Shorty. I missed her… even though I had woken up right next to her a few hours ago that very same morning… I missed her again.

– Shorty and I still make each other laugh a lot.

549555_10151081211236969_1656861041_n

Last week we decided to count the number of times we made each other laugh in that one day. We didn’t count the little jokes. Only the big ones that made us laugh out loud. We counted 10 by the time we went to bed that night.

– I don’t feel scared of marriage anymore. Maybe because I’ve already done it hahaha.. but the truth is that up till the point I proposed I’ve always feared marriage and commitment. I now think marriage is cool!

– Shorty and I are still pretty independent of one another. In all my past relationships, whenever I travel away, I always had to call my girlfriend just before I went to bed to talk to her. Funny enough over the 4 years that Shorty and I have been together… we’ve never had that routine. She would go to Japan and leave me in KL and sometimes I would message her but days could go by where we never talked on the phone. When we eventually met up again though we always spent a good amount of time catching up on all that talk.

– Waking up with Shorty is still loads of fun every morning. I always wake up first and go to my study. When I come back into the bedroom she’ll be lying down checking Twitter on her phone but when she hears me she’ll immediately pretend to be asleep again.

– I still ask her sometimes “How did I end up with this Shorty ar?”. A question we ask each other quite a lot because physically we’re really not each other’s type.

So far… married life rocks. I wish we’ll always be like that.

Oh and  we still say “I love you”. Last time was just a few nights ago.
