Disneyland Hong Kong (Day 1)

I’ve always described Disneyland as the “Happiest Place on Earth”. I think it’s a combination of the balloons, the kids, the loud Disney music they play all around and the colourful park. It’s my second time in HK Disneyland in a year and I still feel this way about it.

We were all talking over Sat night dinner about how great this trip has been. How we all had so much fun and had so many memories to bring back home but the best part about blogging is that I get to put up some of those memories here to share it with you guys and also to have a place to store those memories forever.
I’m going to tell the story in pictures.
1) We all stayed at the Disneyland Hotel that is made to look like a Victorian style kind of building.

A hotel that Mike very well describes as “cosy but yet grand”.
This is a picture of their very grand lobby with a very high ceiling.
I love the rooms too. They typically come with two double beds which I mentioned to Redmummy earlier that it would suit her family of four just nicely.

She was so sweet. You could see how the entire trip she was just thinking about how much her family would have loved the place. At the end of the trip she told me that her dream is no longer branded hand bags or anything like that, but for her to save enough money to bring her family to Disneyland HK for a holiday. What a great mum.
Moving on, I still couldn’t get over how much I liked the really cute Disney themed toiletries.
Plus lets not forget my favourite hotel room slippers.

So comfy and cute!
2) Princess, Redmummy, Ringo and I were the first of the group of Nuffnangers to arrive and we arrived a little too early to check-in so we walked around the hotel a little bit.
Took some pictures outside where they have this really beautiful maze. You know the kind of thing you only see in Alice in Wonderland or in the mansions of some really really rich people.
If I’m a rich man one day, my house is going to have a garden maze.
A big one too! With ice-cream in the center to reward anyone who manages to find his way into the middle.
I’ve always wanted what it was like to go through a maze so I went inside and found my way to the middle.
Before we left at the end of the trip we made sure we took a picture in the maze. See our heads sticking out in the middle of the maze?
Princess was so adorable. You couldn’t see any part of her body when she was in the maze. You could only see her head bopping up and down.
The weather was perfect! You know not too hot and not too cold, so it was a lot of fun walking around outside snapping some pictures of the hotel.

3) We all settled down for lunch after our quick expedition to explore the hotel
and soon enough the Singaporean Nuffnangers arrived.
Here’s Xiaxue and Mike
I took like 5 full minutes looking in awe at Xiaxue’s really blinged up camera and Blackberry. She put every single one of those blings herself manually with glue. Imagine the time it took her.

Here’s Singaporean Couple #2: Ming and Estee.

We were all starved. Ming didn’t eat a thing on the plane. He has a thing against all plane food. If Ming was stuck on an island, I know he would rather hunt an animal for food than to eat ready made plane food.

After lunch we checked-in. Princess and I lazed around the room for a bit. I wanted to get a bit of sleep but we caught Aladdin on the Disney Channel so we ended up watching the whole movie.

Being in Disneyland really makes you want to watch these classics all over again.
4) Just right when the movie ended, it was time to head downstairs for tea. We met some of the Disneyland staff who are referred to as “Cast members” and they ordered the English Hi-Tea menu for us which included all this food.
It was crazy. They brought like 4-6 of these helpings for all of us. Some of the stuff were really awesome.
Check out the feast!
5) After we had eaten enough to feed a Mongolian army we headed to Disneyland Park.
Rockingdandy tagged along too.
6) When we got there, the first thing we got distracted with was shopping for souvenirs and other Disney merchandise. Man it wasn’t even funny how much we all spent on buying Disney stuff just in the 3 days we were there.
Maybe I’ll save that for another blog entry but we bought some really cool stuff and the girls were going crazy buying everything from mugs, to notebooks, to shirts, to… even stuff you don’t really have a use for but just look nice.

Princess nearly bought this. She didn’t though.. because she ended up finding a whole lot of other stuff to buy.
We were all saved from shopping when we were told the Christmas Parade on Main Street was about to start. The crowd was already gathering… waiting for it.
It was so beautiful and I was so impressed that I ended up standing there the whole time just watching the parade… forgetting to take any pictures or videos!
At one point of the parade they turned out all the lights of the Christmas tree only to make them sparkle a little bit and then gradually turn on again all in sync with the Disney kind of music they were playing.
The parade played off the lights off these little hologram goggle things where if you look at the lights through them you’ll see a lot of shapes.

Some goggles have heart shapes, some have snow flakes, some have little snow men and the likes. I tried taking a picture with my camera through the goggles but I failed.
Ringo on the other hand, managed to get a picture through the goggles so I’m just going to steal one from her blog. I’ve posted it at the end of this post.
The back of the goggles read that it’s patented so I think you can only find this in Disneyland 🙂
7) After the parade ended we took a walk around the park and went for the “It’s a small world ride”. If you’ve been reading my blog for a while you’ll probably know this ride really well by now right?

It’s this ride where you sit on a boat and they take you through a canal that has these little dolls singing on the side of it “It’s a small world after all… it’s a small world after all…”.
Different sections of the canal represent different countries. Like these cute little dolls here dressed up in Kimonos represent Japan and they all sing “It’s a small world” in Japanese.

During Christmas they have a special section where they dress all the dolls up very Christmas-sy.
8) When we were done with “It’s a Small World”, we went for Ming’s favourite ride of all time… what he calls “The tea cup ride”.

Funny huh. You would think for someone as fierce and aggressive as Ming, his favourite ride would be some killer rollercoaster or something but no. His favourite ride is the ‘tea-cup ride” where all you do is just spin round and round and round.

I shared a tea-cup with Princess but she got so dizzy I was afraid she would throw up so I didn’t dare spin the tea cup any more than it was already spinning.

Ming and Estee on the other hand were spinning their tea-cup so fast it looked like a Tazmanian devil from the distance.

9) The night for us ended the way every magical night in Disneyland ends. With a really nice fireworks display!
Again… the goggles came into play and took the experience to a whole new dimension. Allow me to illustrate. Here’s how the fireworks looked like without the goggles.
and here’s how it looked like with the goggles.

(Picture stolen from Ringo with permission).
Really really cool huh.

And that everyone… was how our first day at Disneyland Hong Kong ended. With a beautiful fireworks display and loads of happy memories.

Back from Hong Kong Disneyland

It’s 2.36AM and I just got back home. Was thinking of blogging about the trip tonight but it’s too late. Will blog soon ok?

Gotta sleep now. Tomorrow have to wake up for work. Fortunately I love my job…. if not I’ll probably be going “fml fml fml”.

Interview with Astro Arwani’s "In Person"

Hey Everyone,
I’m leaving for Hong Kong Disneyland in a few hours. So 24 hours from now I’m going to be skipping around HAPPY LAND! Hheeheh
But in the mean time, I’m going to leave you with a quick update.
A couple of days ago I had a 30-minute interview with Astro Awani for a program they have called “In Person” where they interview personalities.

It was meant to be a very casual kind of thing and kinda supposed to cover what I do in my free time and my general thoughts about many things.
So we did it in the Curve. Since everyone knows that I spend a lot of time in The Curve. Places I normally hang out at the Curve is the book store and TGIF… and of course Cineleisure because I love movies.
The interviewer was a really nice guy named Dino. I learned that he used to study in the UK too and he was in London on the same years that I was there too. Wonder if we’ve ever met. Imagine if we did, it’ll be so weird. It’s like… maybe we were at the same Malaysian Society events or something but we didn’t know each other until now.
He was helped by two cameramen.

One of whom had to strap on this thing he called a …. shit I can’t remember what it’s called but it’s this body-armour looking like thing where he straps the camera on to him so he can walk around with the camera mounted on him while filming us.
Was a really fun interview. I think the interview is going to be aired this coming Tuesday on the 24th of November ’09 but just in case I mess up the timing again (like I did with the BFM interview), follow me on my Twitter and I’ll update it then once I do get confirmation.
Okay… gotta go to get a few hours of sleep now then head to the airport. HONG KONG DISNEYLAND!!! HERE I COME!!!
PS: I’m going to leave you with a picture of Jojo that I took right after the shoot. Happened to have lunch with her and some other friends there that day.

Nice picture huh? I love my new camera hehe

Going to HK Disney!

Phew it has been quite a busy week for me. Did so many things with many more to do. Tomorrow is my last work day for the week though. I took Friday off because Hong Kong Disneyland invited Princess and I and a few other bloggers from Malaysia and Singapore over for the weekend. I can’t wait to go back.
I love Disneyland.. it’s the happiest place in the world!
All the rides, the parades, the happy people!

It’s not going to be all play for me though. Supposed to go in for a quick meeting with the people at Hong Kong Disneyland. Did you know that HK Disneyland has been running campaigns on Nuffnang Malaysia, Singapore and Philippines? Gotta say I love working on Disneyland campaigns. Their ads are so cute!
Will blog about the trip in time to come. Can’t wait to go!
Have a great weekend everyone 🙂

Video Games Ruined My Life

I wanted to blog about what I did over the weekend but I realized that I did very little. My weekend was doomed the minute I decided to go buy this XBOX game that I waited so long for.
You know how it is that I used to find it ironic that when I was young I craved having an XBOX or Playstation but my parents never wanted to buy me one. Then when I got older and started earning my own money, I could afford to buy one but I can’t seem to find the time to play it?
It’s called Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and I’m secretly glad that they come up with a sequel to this franchise only once a year or something because I think its existence seriously affects my life and turns me into a useless couch potato.

Allow me to illustrate that with some actual conversations between Princess and me that took place over the weekend. This happened after I bought the game on Saturday afternoon and went home straight to play it. Princess had to go to work (yes on a Saturday) so for the first time in my life I gave her my car keys and told her to drive herself.
She said “Really? You trust me?”
and I replied “Yes I do“… when what I really meant was “Yes… I really need to play my game now. I can’t wait”.
—————-
When Princess was out
*My mobile phone rings. I answer it while pressing it between my ear and my shoulder so that I could still keep both hands on my XBOX controller.
Princess: Baby… I just got into an accident. I banged your car.
Me: Oh really? Ohh… okay.
Princess: *waits for more serious response*
*”more serious response” doesn’t come*
My mind first starting thinking “Oh shit…. she bang my car? How like that?”
but my video game influenced mind eventually settled on:

“Ah nvm. I’ll deal with it right after I keel these muthafuckers!!! BRING IT ON ASSHOLESSSS!!!!!” *rat tat tat tat tat (game machine gun fire).
Princess: Okay just joking haha. What are you doing now?
Me: Playing game…. FUK LARRR I DUNNO WHERE THEY’RE SHOOTING ME FROM!!!
Princess: Oh ok… talk to you later lar. Byebye!
Me: Bye! Love you.
————-
After Princess Comes Home
Princess: Still playing ar?
Me: Baby baby!!! I’m so glad you’re here! I’m hungry 🙁
Princess: So go eat lah…
Me: Cannot cannot… playing online with my bro now. The game cannot pause wan. Can you go get me the biscuit in the fridge?
Princess: Ok…. *opens fridge* Which biscuit??? The Oreo?
Me: Nonono… got another one. Brown colour and square shape wan.
Princess: *Brings the biscuit over and puts it on the table.*
Me: Baby can you do me a favour?

Princess: What?

Me: Could you feed me the biscuit? I got no hands. My hands are on the controller.

Princess: *annoyed* Fine… *removes biscuit from wrapper and attempts to put biscuit into my mouth.

Me: Eh wait wait too big for me to eat one shot lar. Wait let me bite half off first. *takes the first bite*
Princess: *waits impatiently for me to finish the first half of the biscuit with the second half in her hand. All the while with my eyes not leaving the screen and hands not leaving the XBOX controller*.

Me: Umm ummm *opens mouth indicating I want the second piece*

Princess: *Shoves second piece into my mouth*

Me: Some more some more…
*whole process is repeated a few more times until she gets impatient and goes into the room*.
So that everyone… is why video games are bad for you.

Pics in Nuffnang Office

Was showing my new camera to everyone in the office just a few days ago.
So after work one day I started taking some pictures of some of the Nuffies and the things in the office.
Say “Hi!” to Michelle and Karen who both handle our Ad Ops.
To David who is always busy on the phone (Ladies Man #2 if you guys remember from the previous Nuffnang video).
Firdy here, Ladies Man #1.
Nicky, who demanded I give her this picture after I took it. So Nicky here it is.
And Vernice.
Vernice was slouching when I approached her. Then when I pointed the camera at her she quickly jacked up her left shoulder to give a sexy pose so that she’ll look good for the camera.
Tim 1 and Tim 2.
Rina…
Me on my own.
Me and Karen
Me and the girls.

After a while I started getting bored of taking pictures of people so I started taking close up pictures of things we use in the office (apart from our computers and printers and phones).
Here’s my calculator on my desk. The tool I use to calculate how little money I have sometimes.

The marker on our white board that we call the “Carol Board”. Something that we use to keep track of scheduling for blog ad campaigns.
Here’s a picture of Vernice’s mobile phone which looks like a rabbit foot.
We also have lots of stuffed toys around the office.
Here’s one of the Madagascar Penguins.

Some teddy bear I have on my desk. No idea how it got there.

And another teddy bear on another desk I found around the office.

Hahhaa ok enough of office pictures now 🙂
That’s all for today.
Sorry I’m too distracted to blog any further today. If you wanna know why…. THIS is why.
HAHAHAHAHAA
Now don’t blame the player…. blame the game.
Have a good weekend everyone! 🙂

The Nuffnang Story (Nuffnang Milestones)

It’s been over 2 and a half years since Nuffnang started out. We’ve since then grown to represent over 100,000 bloggers in the region from our offices in KL, Singapore, Manila and Melbourne.

We thought it would be nice to have a video that recapped the history of Nuffnang so that all of us will always remember how we came out so we came up with this video which was done by Kyanite and edited by this really famous video editor named Anne.

We first showed it at the Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards this year.
Check it out.
Things covered in the video
– The Nuffnang Story
– Interviews with the Nuffnang staff in various countries
– What the Nuffnang Staff think about working in Nuffnang?
– What they think Ming and I are like.
Part 1

Part 2

Hope you guys like it.

This blog will have nicer pictures now…

Hey before I start off right, I got a quick announcement. It turns out my BFM segment that I was referring to in the previous entry wasn’t at 7PM today. Will update you guys when I know when it’ll go on air. Sorry for the confusion.
———————-
It all started when Judd, one of our Filipino Nuffies was down in KL. He was going on and on and on with me about this apparently really kickass camera called the LX-3. Saying how it’s the most powerful compact camera ever made etc etc all at a time where I was beginning to feel like I could use a new camera.
So I went with him to a shop at Cineleisure and asked to take a look at one. They quoted me RM1,700 for it and they said it didn’t come with an in-built flash. So that was a huge turnoff for me. I ended up not buying it in the end.

Then just last weekend my brother insisted on going to Low Yat to buy something. So I followed him there and decided to pop by a camera shop just to take a look at the LX-3 again. The salesman just needed 10 minutes with me and I was sold!
Turned out that the LX-3 does have an in-built flash and is the best compact ever made according to the salesman. I made a decision to buy it there and then and have been taking lots of pictures.
I’m totally useless at photography. All I know is point and shoot. This camera though knows how to do all the thinking for newbies like me. I got home and I immediately started taking pictures of everything around my room.
Here’s a picture of my watch…
a picture of my mouse…
a picture of my thumb…
and as I was running out of things to take close-up pictures of, I ended up taking a picture of one of Princess’ curlers.

After I felt as if I’ve taken pictures of everything in my room I decided to bring my camera out. Went for dinner with my brother, Princess and Elise and I took some pictures of the food at Duck King.
That’s right… Timothy Tiah takes pictures of the food he eats. That’s something I don’t do so often but can you blame me when the pictures look so nice?
Here’s a random picture of my tea cup.
And here’s our sweet sour pork.

Our roast duck and siu yoke.

Nice huh.
Even the bowl of white rice looks nice!

I love my new camera!
I love how my pictures are so much nicer now and it didn’t take any skill improvement on my side. Ahh the pleasures of technology.

Project Alpha Season One comes to an end

It ended just a few days ago everyone. The last episode of Season 1 with Sixthseal in it just aired.

Overall I felt that it was such a fun journey. Apart from learning a lot more about some of the 7 bloggers we interviewed (stuff I never knew about them), I also learned a thing or two about how TV shows are made.
It’s such a long process with so much work involved it’s mind boggling. I mean shooting the video with multiple cameras takes long enough but there are other things involved like editing it all to turn hours and hours of film to just a few minutes so that it’s fast cut and not too draggy.
I kinda miss it now that it’s over and I hope there’ll be Season 2. We’re still discussing whether we will do a Season 2 or not but we’ll see how it goes.
There were many many really great episodes but one of my favourites have got to be this one.
Budiey vs Beautifulnara on the reverse bungee.

and how Beautifulnara’s girlfriend stepped in to help him.
I thought Budiey’s face on the ride was HILARIOUS.
And here’s the Season Finale of Project Alpha.

Hope you guys enjoyed watching it as much as we enjoyed making it.
PS 1: If you’d like to all the previous episodes, click here.

PS 2: If we do have a Season 2, who would you like to see featured?
PS 3: I’m going to be interviewed again on BFM 89.9 tomorrow (9th Nov)at around 7-8PM. Tune it if you’re in the car. Hope I don’t embarrass myself by saying something stupid like “nipples” or something.
