How My Mornings Start

The alarm clock rang. I had been awake for the past 20 minutes just lying in bed thinking about things so it didn’t come to me as a shock. It did however come to My Hello Kitty as one.
She grumbled at the sound of her Blackberry alarm ringing away… crawled to her phone and put it on snooze. If there was a huge mallet next to her night-stand where her BB lay, I’m very sure her BB would’ve been in a hundred different parts.
My Hello Kitty never was a morning person. She hates mornings. She wakes up every morning grumbling like she was a mummy waking up from a 1,000 year nap. Most mornings I actually wake up earlier than her and go wash up to get ready for work. On one of those mornings, after my shower and all I nudged her to wake her up. She didn’t move.
Then I started pretending I was Dug, sniffed all over her face and said
“Hey… this is the bird. I’ve never seen one before but.. this is the bird”. (line from UP).

The first words out of her mouth that morning was
“Fuck you lah!!! Wake up so early then make so much noise!!!!”
I laughed and tried to defend myself
“No I didn’t…. I…”
“You did! Open the cupboards and all make so much noise!!!”
In the end I just resigned to my fate of morning scoldings. You learn many things from being in a relationship after a while. One of those things I learned is…don’t mess with My Hello Kitty in the mornings. Once she’s had breakfast and by the time she’s out of the door to work she’s back to her happy self though. The grumpyness would’ve faded away by then and she would be all giggly again.
Just a few days ago after she left for work she messaged me on BBM

My Hello Kitty: Wombeh… I haz a confessionz

Me: What? What? You’re not really short? Your hair is actually a wig?

My Hello Kitty: HAHA! Nuuu…. last night I woke up in the middle of the night and caught myself drooling on your chest.

Me: FUK!!! No wonder I dreamt I was drowning!
My Hello Kitty: HAHA!

So that everyone, is how I start my mornings with My Hello Kitty.

Project Alpha Press Conference & Blogger Launch

Thursday last week was probably the most exciting day I’ve had in the past few months. It was the day of our Press Conference & Blogger Launch for Project Alpha Season 2. The Press Conference was held in the morning and the Blogger Launch at night.
Both launches were meant to unveil the trailer of Project Alpha Season 2. That’s right everyone, after months of filming, editing and hard work… Project Alpha Season 2 is coming out in a couple of weeks (19th April 2010 to be exact).
Here are some pictures from the day.
1) Mike and I in front of the backdrop at the Press Conference.
2) Here’s a picture of all of us with our sponsors on stage answering questions from the press.

From left: Wai Fong from MAS, Jojo Struys, Sam from Adidas Action 3 (Starasia), Idham from P1 and me *shy*.
I was told by journalist Niki Cheong that in many Press Conferences when it comes to Q&A time, the journalists don’t normally ask a lot of questions. This time though they asked some really really good questions!
We’ve had the best sponsors to work with. Seriously. You know how it’s like right, putting together a production like that is sooo much work but the whole gargantuan task is made easier when you have really smart and really good people to work with. Our sponsors were all great partners to have. I feel so blessed to have them on board.
After every Press Conference I always worry about whether we answer questions good enough but lots of people told me later that we all answered them really well together as a team.
3) Speaking of Niki Cheong, here’s a picture of him and two other Project Alpha Season 2 bloggers: Ninie and KY.

4) We had food after the Press Conference.
They had really good Nasi Lemak there. Ninie was secretly whacking some 30 plates of Nasi Lemak there. Haha don’t think we didn’t notice Ninie!
5) I like how some of the sponsors decorated the place.
Like this floor vinyl thingy done by Adidas Action 3.
It went on to very very far. I think you have to really be there to see its real-life effect of it but it was just… simple yet caught your attention instantly.
After the Press Conference I went off to run some errands, head back to the office and then back again that night for the blogger’s launch.
6) There was quite a crowd. Some 150-200 or so Nuffnangers were there to meet the Project Alpha Season 2 bloggers.
At first everyone started shy but as the night went on, more and more Nuffnangers went to take pictures with all the bloggers there. There was actually a freaking queue to take pictures with Xiaxue.
Took loads of pictures with all the Nuffnangers there!
7) All a fun bunch! I love Nuffnangers! They’re always so friendly and fun to hang out with.

8) Here’s me, Azwan Ali and Michael (the director of the show).
9) I like how each Project Alpha blogger had there own buntings with their pictures on it.

Love the photos they took at the photoshoot. Really nice. If you want to see the rest of the pictures from the photoshoot, click here.
10) Here I am with Niki Cheong, KY, Kimcun and Shaolintiger.
11) My Hello Kitty and me with Xiaxue
12) Xiaxue sitting on Mike’s lap!
Probably tired from all the photo-taking she did. If you haven’t caught on yet, Xiaxue is actually a guest blogger featured in Project Alpha Season 2.
13) Here’s some of us Nuffies with Azwan Ali.
Azwan Ali is some Star man! So many bloggers were all taking turns to take pictures with him. So when we all saw the opening to, we just jumped in to grab a picture for ourselves.
14) Apart from a simple dinner that night for people to mingle with other bloggers and the Project Alpha Stars, Rimmel London also set up a little make-up booth for anyone who wanted to have some make-up done and look all glamourous and all.
15) My Hello Kitty couldn’t resist it as usual so she quickly hopped on an empty spot to get it done.
16) Picture of me and Cynthia Seow.

17) If you haven’t heard of Cynthia yet, she’s from P1 and one of the people we work very closely with for Project Alpha Season 2
Meeting Cynthia was a funny story. When I first met her in a meeting room at P1, she came in wearing this really big towering jacket that made her look very intimidating. I was thinking to myself that this lady looks very very fierce and is gonna keel us. I commented on the jacket and she just laughed and said she was just cold.
Many months on, she turned out to be a really really fun person in real life. Very into social media and very active in 4sq! Always got higher points than me no matter how many check-ins I do. So far… almost a year in and we still haven’t kena any big scolding from Cynthia yet…. she has however laughed a lot with us in that time. We all love Cynthia (we love you too Kenny! Don’t worry).
18) This is a picture of My Hello Kitty and Shaolintiger.
Shaolintiger was trying to prove quite successfully that even on his knees he was the height of My Hello Kitty.
19) And finally, a picture here with me and some of the Nuffies.
I’m going to end this post now with the trailer of Project Alpha Season 2 that we aired that day.
Everyone, here it is.

I’m so excited to watch it when it comes out on the 19th of April. If you want to follow the developments of Project Alpha Season 2 until then, follow us on our Facebook fan page here.
To the sponsors: Adidas Action 3, P1 and MAS, thank you for supporting this program.
To the people who worked with us for this project: Julia, Sam, Margaret, Idham, Kenny, Cynthia, Wai Fong, Salina, Michael, Jojo, Tony, David, Xinxian and anyone I missed out… you know who you are.. Thank you for making this dream come true for us.

New Room!

Okay I was thinking of blogging about Project Alpha’s launch yesterday but there are so many pictures and all that I’ve decided to save it for the next entry where I have more time to sit down and draft one nice one out.

I’ve been busy with so many things which explains the lack of updates this week. Sorry about that 🙁

One of the things I’ve been busy with is moving to a new place. I moved to a new apartment recently and was running around getting the room furnished. Was staying in a temporary room (that My Hello Kitty didn’t like) while we got the main master-bedroom furnished.

Today the bed finally came and tonight will be our first night moving in.

Let me show you around.

This is how our room looks like.
Heh on one side there are lots of windows and on the other there is a big window to the bathtub. So you can kinda soak in the tub and watch TV from the bath tub.
Nice huh?
Hehe this is the new bed and sheets we just bought. It’s also the only sheets we’ve got. My mum pity us so she decided to help us buy a few more.

I know it’s a bit bare. We haven’t put in a lot of our stuff yet but we’re in the process of doing it. Trust me, once My Hello Kitty fully moves in here, you’ll see clothes on the bed, on the chair, on the windows. Everywhere.
I’m thinking of bringing my XBOX in here too. Then I’ll almost never leave the room, except to go to this room.
Attached to our bedroom is our study. Where My Hello Kitty and I have separate tables opposite one another to do our computer stuff and work.

So we all have our own work spaces. I bought some nicer office looking chairs for this place today but they’re not yet delivered.
It has its own attached toilet as well. So I can use it whenever My Hello Kitty hogs the other one when she takes her 30 minutes to put on her make-up and do her hair.

So that’s the first preview of our new home.
What do you guys think?

Capella at Sentosa

Announcement: From this entry on I have decided that I will refer to Princess now as “My Hello Kitty“.
Which Hello kitty?
This Hello Kitty.
Okay good that we’ve gotten that straightened out now on to my entry.
While we were in Sentosa a couple of weekends ago, Ming put us up at Capella. Ming didn’t want to raise our expectations so all he did was say that it was “nice”. It was of course a lot more than nice.
The frontage of the hotel is a colonial style building but right behind it is this beautiful modern looking resort.
With a beautiful infinity pool that overlooks the sea.

It’s the kind of place where we each got a villa that looks like this.
When you first walk into the villa, you walk into a beautiful living room like this that just makes you hold your breath.

The curtains automatically open when you walk in and you hear classical music play in the background.
My Hello Kitty was quick to get comfortable.
In the next room, there is the bedroom.
And then a beautiful bathroom. What My Hello Kitty calls her “Dream bathroom” mainly because it was big and had separate sinks for a he and a she.
This is the one My Hello Kitty was using (which was packed with her make-up stuff later in the day).

And this is the one I was using (which wasn’t much different from how it looked like later in the day).

For people who like to bathe in the open Tarzan-style, there is an outdoor shower and an outdoor bathtub to soak in too.
Then when you open the sliding doors leading to outside, you’re met with a small pool and nice long chairs to rest on.

If I had more time at Capella you would’ve seen me wasting away many hours like this.
My Hello Kitty made it a point to dip in the pool. At least halfway.
It was luxurious but the beauty of it comes from the little small details they think of.
For example, on the nightstand beside the bed there is a drawer you can open that pulls up an LCD screen.

From this LCD screen touch screen you can control everything in the room from the lights, to the air-con and even set certain light scenes.

Like if I’m in the mood to be romantic I can push a button and the lights will dim to just the right level.
Then there are other things. Like how both in the living room and the bedroom there was a Bose sound system playing nice soothing classical music all the time.
Or even the toiletries they supply each room in these little bags with all you need. Everything from a toothbrush, mouthwash, toothpaste… you name it.

Or even the simplest things like the power plugs for you to charge your phones all neatly packed in a small box.

In the living room there’s a really expensive looking coffee machine on a pantry that has everything from soft drinks to a bottle of wine.

All complimentary.
Being at Capella was like a total escape out of Singapore. It didn’t feel like Singapore at all. Just felt like you were in this really relaxing place.
Imagine living in a place like this. This is My Hello Kitty and I dressed up right before dinner.
And after dinner we come back to a place like this.
Life like that… is good.
If only every day was just like this 🙂
Too bad I can’t afford it. Don’t ask how much. Ming’s condition for putting us all up was that we don’t ever talk about how much it cost and just enjoy ourselves.
Thank you for the great treat Ming.

The Nuffies’ April Fool’s Prank

The 1st of April as we all know is April Fool’s Day.
It also happens to be the day our new intern Veen Dee was starting her first day of work at Nuffnang.

We haven’t had an intern in a long long time plus when you have someone new start work on the 1st of April, you just can’t not do anything about it.
So here’s what the plan was.
Background
Just in case some of you guys don’t know, at the Nuffnang office we put in some stuff to try to create a rather fun environment. One of those things happen to be a Wii with a Band Hero set, fully equipped with two guitars, a drum set and a mic. Both the offices in Malaysia and Singapore have Band Hero.
There are no real rules for using it. Anyone can basically play Band Hero any time of the work day that they want. All that matters is that their work at the end of the day is done (and of course we don’t make too much noise that it disturbs the rest of the people in the office).
The Plan
Here’s the plan. I was out for meetings the whole morning and only heading into the office after lunch. Just when I was nearby the office, the Nuffies Rachel

And Sara

would both get Veen Dee to play Band Hero with them. Then just when they hear me walk through the office door, they would quickly scatter and pretend to go back to work. Leaving Veen Dee then to turn everything off.
So the plan was for me to catch her and then pretend to be angry at her for playing Band Hero during office hours. She was new so she probably didn’t know yet that we were allowed to play Band Hero at any time of the day. I would then tell Robb to have a talk with her about how pissed off I was and that she was to be fired on her first day.
How it went
The first part went exactly as planned. I walked in and saw Veen Dee panicking. Left alone to turn off the Wii, she didn’t even know where to keep the drum sticks. When I first saw her she had the drumsticks in her hand.
So then I just said Hi and walked away.
Then I pretended to call Robb over and Robb brought Veen Dee to a corner to tell her how upset I was and that we were almost definitely going to fire her unless she could make us change our mind. I had to leave the scolding to Robb because I found it so hard just to contain my laughter. I was going to give it away.
Then Robb brought Veen Dee into the meeting room where I was to let Veen Dee explain. She apologized and she said she didn’t know. I tried to keep a really stern face and said “You know this doesn’t leave a very good impression of you on your first day right?”
She looked down and said “Yes I know”.
Then I asked “Who else was playing with you? Were you playing alone?”
Veen Dee’s eyes darted back and forth. You could see the debate she was having in her mind in that split second on whether to tell the truth and give up the names of her two new colleagues. After she saw us all staring at her though she finally conceded
“Sara and Rachel were playing with me too….”
I opened the meeting room door and called in Sara and Rachel.
Right that moment I could’ve sworn I saw Veen Dee start hyperventilating. She started breathing really hard “Oh Gosh… Oh Gosh….”.
Rachel and Sara walked in… totally playing their part. Then I asked… “Were you girls playing Band Hero with Veen Dee just now? She said you were”.
Veen Dee gave out a really sheepish face until… I just couldn’t take it. I burst out laughing and said “I just can’t do it guys HAHAHAHAHA”.
Then all the rest of the Nuffies who were around the office pretending to work (when they were all eavesdropping instead) starting bursting out laughing and scolded me for being a poor actor. Karen threw her smiley face pillow at me and they all went “WHAT LAH TIM!!!”.
Some 5 seconds or so after that, Veen Dee was still in a state of shock. She didn’t know what was going on until we all finally said “APRIL FOOL!!!”
Then she burst out laughing and crying at the same time. She was relieved of course. I told her we were all just joking . That you’re allowed to play Band Hero any time and we all gave her a group hug!
So that was a great April Fool’s prank we played on a colleague. Funny thing is right before I got back to the office I was reminding all the Nuffies that “I pity the fool who pranks me”. You know… to make sure nobody tries.
Rachel and Michelle though very brave. They both pranked me for a full 45 minutes but that’s another story I’ll save for another day. April Fool’s Day was an eventful one at the Nuffnang office.

Universal Studios Singapore

Last weekend, Ming dragged us all over to Resort’s World Sentosa. We were going all going to visit the newly opened Universal Studios Singapore. Ming was really generous, he put us all up at Capella which was such a great resort but I’ll save that for another entry.
Let me show you my day at Universal Studios in pictures.
1) This is Ming and I at Festive Hotel. One of the hotels at the integrated resort.
Ming was damn kiasu. He wanted to go for Universal Studios the minute it opened so he got us all to meet there at 9AM. Pierre though was late. His GPS seemed like it was taking the day off as well and he ended up being guided to somewhere in Woodlands rather than Sentosa.
About an hour later though, Mr and Mrs Pierre Pang and Mr and Mrs Kah Seong arrived safely at Sentosa.
2) Princess and I at the entrance of Universal Studios.
The big globe kinda reminds me of Disney Sea.
It’s actually not my first time at Universal Studios. It’s my 3rd. I’ve been to the one in the USA and the one in Japan once before on family trips. Still… I was excited.
3) Princess and Mrs Bossming at what I keep calling the “Main Street USA” of Universal Studios.
4) Pierre, Ming and me starting our day at Universal Studios.
5) Oh and did I mention Lyndi and Kah Seong who came along too.
We saw this big pop corn truck and thought it was a prop. Didn’t realize that you could actually really buy popcorn off it until we got much nearer to it. And just because of that… someone insisted that they take a picture in front of it.
6) We ate breakfast at this really 60s looking cafe.
It ain’t a 60s looking cafe without a jukebox!
So while the rest of the group who often acted grown up and all sat down and had breakfast. Princess and I went about camwhoring.

With the jukebox, among other things.
7) After dinner we saw this group of dancers in colourful shirts dancing outside to all kinds of music.
8) Watched it for a while then we went to watch a musical performance called “Monster Rock”.
It was a really fun performance! You could tell that all the actors and actresses were all from overseas but they did whatever they could to localize their performance. At one point they broke out singing “Gei wo yi ge wen” and “Nobody nobody but you *clap* *clap*”. That is of course, amongst the other rock songs they sang like It’s My Life and all.
9) Walked along the streets and saw yet another performance.
This one a breakdancing one. My sister would’ve loved it. Have I ever mentioned that my sister is a great street dancer. Maybe I’ll share her videos up here one day (with her permission).
10) I love rollercoasters…. and I was really looking forward to this one but just a few days before my trip I was disappointed to hear that the police shut down the ride temporarily for safety reasons.

So when I was there at Universal Studios, the ride was closed.
11) Ming however was happy.
Ming is a really tough soldier kind of guy but not a rollercoaster kind of person. He doesn’t enjoy it and I understand it. I used to be like that. I used to think… why go through all that shit just to scare yourself?
That was of course until I learned to scream and shout when I’m on a rollercoaster. Once you do that, it’s like you let everything lose and it suddenly becomes… actually fun.
So now I love rollercoasters. The faster the better. I’ve been on all sorts now.
Back to Ming, his favourite ride at Disneyland is the ‘tea cup ride’. You know the one where you sit in a tea cup and you can turn a big dial in the middle of the tea cup to spin it round and round?
Well at Universal Studios, their version of the tea-cup ride is this…
something they call the Accelerator.
Princess and I hopped into one ‘cup’ ourselves while Ming, Kah Seong and the rest went into their own cups.
This is Princess posing and pretending to look as if she’s scared of the ride.
And this is Princess genuinely scared of the ride.
She was getting dizzy and was afraid that she might throw up… on me.
12) The next ride we went for was the Mummy ride.

Pierre and the rest had invested a lot of their earlier time telling Ming that it was a fun ride. Not scary at all. Not much of a rollercoaster. So we managed to trick Ming to go for it with us.
It wasn’t easy to be honest. While queuing up for the ride there were many warnings signs that said “Warning, Mummy ride (or whatever it was called) is a ride that involves sharp turns, drops and etc etc…”.
Each time we passed one of those signs, one of us took our queue to distract Ming from looking at it.
When Ming finally realized, he was already strapped into his seat.
The next 5 minutes was really funny for us… but not funny for Ming.
I ended up buying the picture that they took of all of us on the rollercoaster because it was so funny. Ming’s reaction (along with everyone else’s) was hilarious.
But Ming banned me from posting that picture online. So I shan’t… for fear of losing my business partner.
13) We went to watch Waterworld after that.
This is again my 3rd time watching Waterworld. I don’t understand why the real movie was a box office flop though. I read all these bad reviews about it online but I remember growing up watching the movie and actually really liking it.

It was also, one of the most expensive movies ever made.
Me, Ming and Mrs Bossming waiting for the show to start.
14) Here’s Princess and I at Far Far Away Land.

Princess said she likes this picture very much.
15) Me and the Friar !

16) The ladies shopping for Universal Studios merchandise.

We ended up buying a lot of these little stuffed Gingerbread Men. You know the one in Shrek with the high-pitched voice.
I didn’t buy the little stuffed Gingerbread Men but what I did end up buying was this pillow.
For the office. Hehehe.. nais leh!
17) Saw the penguins from Madagascar as well. We wanted to take a picture with them but there were too many people queuing up for that same opportunity.
So we only managed to get a picture of their backs.
18) This is us at the Jurassic Park part of Universal Studios.
Princess and I decided to each do some pose with the big dinosaur we saw.
I went for the stupid look.

And Princess went for the cute one that just makes everyone wanna go.. Awwww….

19) And a last picture to end with.
This was taken at the Hershey store outside Universal Studios.
Me looking stupid again.
I had fun at Universal Studios.
Thanks for dragging us there Ming. And for the tickets.
Princess and I thank you!

I shall end this blog entry with……
“NOBODY NOBODY BUT YOU …. *CLAP* *CLAP*”

HAHA! NOW THAT SONG IS ALWAYS GOING TO BE STUCK IN YOUR HEAD!

Do you believe in ghosts?

My sister is moving down to KL to work. As a result of that, I find myself having to move out of the room or actually the apartment I used to stay in and move into another one right across the hall from it.

This new apartment I’m living in how has been empty for years. I used to live in one of the rooms in this new apartment more than 3 years ago but ever since I moved out it has had only one other tenant who moved out a couple of years ago. As a result the apartment has been empty for two years.
The minute Princess walked into the new room with me she started feeling very depressed and sad and grumpy. I asked her what’s wrong and she shared that there was something not right about the room. She didn’t know how to explain it but she said something about it made her feel uneasy and depressed. She said she thought there might be a spirit living in here.
I calmed her down. I’m a God fearing person. I believe in God and while I believe that there are spirits among us sometimes, call me optimistic but I somehow believe that spirits don’t want to harm us… short of us doing anything evil or something.
Princess then went on to tell me a story her parents had told her before. Her parents used to share a home with 2 other couples. The couple who lived in the master bedroom of the house used to fight a lot. One day they finally moved out of the room and the other couple moved in. The second couple then started having a lot of fights. So her parents always believed that there was something wrong with that room.
Well I hope it isn’t the same for this room. It is after all a room I’ve once lived in for a while.
Princess and I decided to try it out for one night. Hope it all goes well.
Do you guys believe in ghosts or things like that?

Philippines in Pictures

Hi everyone,
I’m in Singapore now. Staying at Capella in Sentosa. It’s a really really nice place. Have taken lots of pictures and will blog about it soon but in the mean time here is the rest of the things I did in the Philippines… in pictures.
1) This is the lobby of the hotel I was staying in. I stayed in Peninsula at Makati. Great hotel.
I actually witnessed my first earthquake in this hotel. On the last day of my stay in Manila, we were in the room when Ming suddenly said “Do you feel the hotel shaking?”
I didn’t know how to confirm it at first. I did a Google News Search and didn’t manage to find anything about an earthquake in Manila so I did a Twitter search and voila, everyone was talking about how a 6.0 magnitude quake just hit Manila.
Ahh the power of Twitter.
2) Picture of taken during the Board meeting of Nuffnang Philippines Inc.

Haha for some reason some people seem to think that I was in Manila on a holiday or something because all they see are my dinners and all.
Well here’s what I do during the day. Go to the office 🙂
A picture of all the people at the Board meeting.

The Board meeting is where the heads of the company meet together and get updates on how the company is doing and make any major decisions moving forward.
3) Had a chance to meet the Country Manager of Yahoo Philippines as well.
We met up with him for lunch. Eric brought us to this place called Mamou.
It had really great steak.

4) Here’s a picture of one of the hosts at Mag.Net’s Rockoke night. He was a great host. Really funny as well.

On one of my other days at Manila, Ming and I bumped into him in the lobby of our hotel all dressed up in work clothes.
He laughed and said “This is my day job”.
I hear he runs some private equity fund. Big job!
5) Speaking of Rockoke night at Mag.net, here’s a picture of the some of the Nuffnangers there singing Wannabe on stage.
Spice girl fans.

6) Picture of Jay, Eric, Ming and I at a dinner on the first night we were there.
Having Mexican food!
7) Here’s a random picture of Ming taken right outside Greenbelt.
Being his first trip to the Philippines, I wasn’t sure if Ming would like it but at the end of the trip he decided he liked Manila too. Just like me. I love coming to Manila 🙂
8) And I’m going to end off with a picture of the team in Nuffnang Philippines.
Can’t imagine how it has grown. It used to only have like a couple of people in the team, now there are so many more.
I enjoyed Manila very much but it was really all thanks to the great company I had there. Thanks for hosting us guys (that means Nuffies, Nuffnangers and Eric/Jay) 🙂

Looking forward to another trip soon 🙂
