Leaving on a Jet Plane again!

Hey Guys,

I’ve been really busy lately. Lots of things to sort out with so many things happening. Like yesterday I realized that my credit card got compromised. I was being charged by some unknown merchant and have ended up losing over RM350 or so. I’ve called to cancel the card already but *sigh*. I’ve just been having a bit of bad luck lately.

This morning though I’m taking a flight to Hong Kong on another business trip. Then after a few days there I’ll be flying to San Francisco for a Silicon Valley conference there that I’ll be attending. All in all I’m going to be away for almost 2 weeks so I’ve had so much work to clearup before I go. I tried traveling as light as possible this trip so I’ve packed it all up into a medium sized bag. My coat and all.

Will update again soon when I have the chance. And yes I’ll blog about San Francisco when I get there.

I’ve only been there as a child and I always remembered it to be the most beautiful place on Earth! I always dreamed of living there one day… not sure if that dreams going to come true eventually but at least I get to stay there for the week of the conference. See you guys then!

Deepavali Weekend

Ok here’s what I’ve been up to lately. On Thursday lunch, some of the Nuffies decided to drop by Pizza Hut Pavilion to try their new 6-cheese pizza. It’s loads yummy!

P1050209

The people at Pizza Hut were telling me how they took quite a long time to perfect this formula and to have it suit our local taste buds and I think they’ve managed to really get this right. I hope they keep this on the menu for a loong time.

There were quite a number of us so we ended up splitting into 3 different tables. Here’s Nic Davis with the girls.

P1050205

Me with some of the other girls on the other table.

P1050207

And Nic Chay, Robb with the rest šŸ™‚

P1050210

Over the weekend long Deepavali weekend, I heard a lot of Malaysians were heading down to Singapore and a lot of Singaporeans coming down to Malaysia. I was one of the former. I had to go down for some meetings I had to attend. So yes, it was unfortunately a little bit of a working long weekend for me. I did manage to catch up with some people though.

Caught up with Kenny, Xiaxue and some other friends for lunch at this peking duck restaurant in Paragon.

P1050220

Ming was really proud of it and he was telling me how it was much better than the peking duck we had in Beijing itself.

P1050215

It was good. I’m not sure if it’s just us but we never seem to be able to find good food in Beijing. Everything there is always really oily or served cold. Ā This duck though was good!

P1050218

It was crispy and the meat was really tender.

P1050219

Had some other dishes there too like the usual sweet sour pork and all and that was great. Kitteh went shopping with Xiaxue for the rest of the weekend while I worked and did other stuff. Before I knew it though, we’re all set to go back to KL, the weekend was over. We packed our bags, including Kitteh’s proudest addition to her luggage. Her pink polkadot Hello Kitty bag.

P1050224

A very nice reader of hers apparently helped her buy it from Taiwan. I wanted to share a bag with her for this trip to Singapore but she insisted she carry an additional bag so she could use this pink bag. It became a little bit of a burden though. When she found out she had to check it in, she panicked and she asked the staff to mark it as fragile.

P1050212

That’s right, a LUGGAGE bag with nothing but clothes in it marked as FRAGILE not to protect what’s inside the bag but to protect the pink bag it was.

P1050223

Then when we were walking around the airport I accidentally kicked her bag. At first she just let out a soft “Heeeyyy!”, then it registered to her that she was using her new pink bag and she repeated her “HEEYY!!!!”, only louder and in a lower more angry voice. Okay now that I’m done talking about a girly thing, let me share something for us geeks!

When I was over at Ming’s place he showed me his Limited Edition version of Starcraft 2. It came in this really nice box that opened up like that.

P1050233

Inside there was the game, a DVD on the making of the game, the soundtrack and a comic of it.

P1050227

Plus it came with Jim Raynor’s dog tag which was actually a USB flash drive. Loaded inside the drive was a full version of Starcraft 1.

P1050226

And Ming also managed to get this poster of Starcraft 2, signed by the lead designer of the game.

P1050230

P1050232

People were apparently bidding for this Limited Edition of Starcraft 2 up to the tune of S$500 per copy. Ming though managed to get it for much cheaper.

Ming described Starcraft 2 as a game that took geniuses to conceive and make. My Kitteh though would beg to differ I’m sure. She’ll call it a game that destroys relationships. Hee heee.

Strongbow and More

This Post is Sponsored by Strongbow!

Anyone know what Strongbow is?
I was curious one day so I sent out a tweet and asked people if anyone out there loves Strongbow

1

and I got quite a lot of responses to it.

Strongbow is the most popular cider in the UK, accounting for more than half of the cider sold in Britain (according to Wikipedia). In a mug it kinda looks like beer but it’s not exactly beer. Beer uses malted barley as a sugar source for the fermentation process whereas cider uses apple juice (Both beer and cider require yeast for the fermentation process though).

P1050165

Unlike beer too, it’s not bitter. It’s actually sweet so some people I know who don’t like the bitterness of beer go for Strongbowinstead. Last weekend I decided to go for a drink with some of the guys and girls at The Social in Bangsar.

P1050153

Instead of our usual beer though, this time we decided to order Strongbow!

P1050203

Strongbow is a really nice change to the beer we usually drink. Kitteh took a sip from me and really liked it too which kinda made her regret ordering her usual cranberry juice.

P1050167

Coring on the other hand went all out for Strongbow along with the other guys.

P1050185

There’s more to Strongbow though than just being a drink on its own. After the first round of Strongbow, the guys started talking about how the many ways they can drink Strongbow and the topic of ā€œSnakebiteā€ came up. ā€œSnake-bite is a cocktail that involved mixing beer and cider, topping it off with a dash of Ribena.
Huai Bin was eager to try it out so we asked the waiter if they could make us one but they didn’t serve it then.

P1050173

So we decided to take matters into our own hands. We ordered more Strongbow, a jug of Tiger beer and a shot of Ribena.

P1050175

Then we started to mix it all… and I don’t know if it was the booze talking but somewhere along the lines someone suggested we make a video of this and post it on YouTube. So make a video we did.

We made one mistake though, apparently we’re supposed to add the Ribena last according to Eric but no matter! This was the result.

P1050196

I slowly took a sip and guess what I thought…. IT TASTED DAMN BLOODY GOOD! It tastes some sort in between beer and cider. Like it’s not as bitter as beer and it’s not as sour as cider normally is. Because Ribena is sweet though, snake bite tastes less sourish but much sweeter than the pure Strongbow. I passed the drink around and everyone loved it so we ordered more Strongbow and made more.

I can really see myself drinking lots more Strongbow either in its original form of made into ā€œSnakebiteā€. I really recommend you guys try it out… try both and you’re ought to find a kind of combination that you’ll like.

P1050182

Both Huai Bin and Eric here can testify to that. ☺

The Ups and Downs of Internet Companies

It was 4 years ago in August 2006. I had just come back from London after graduating and I had just made the decision to not join an investment bank but instead to get together with Ming to start what would eventually become Nuffnang. We had assembled a small team in Penang to start building the first version of www.nuffnang.com.

It was a huge step for me. A leap of faith. Turning down an opportunity to work at a good job that pays well and jumping really into the unknown. Into something that may eventually fail. I needed inspiration so one day I decided to go into a bookstore to find it. As I was walking by the magazine section, this cover of BusinessWeek magazine caught my eye.

Kevin Rose his name was. The guy who invented Digg. The article I read talked about how he made $60 million in just 18 months after starting Digg.com, which was at the time one of the most popular websites in the world. I read his whole story… and that inspired me to go on. At one point Google even offered $200 mil to buy it but the deal didn’t work out.

Fast forward to 2010 though and things seems to have changed. Digg is no longer one of the top websites in the world that it used to be. It also announced that it was laying off about 1/’3 of its staff and now people online are wondering whether it’s going to die in the next few years. It’s not all gloomy though. Digg.com still has some 15,000,000 unique users a month visiting it’s site and that’s a lot of traffic. Now the thing about the world is that the media magnifies your success or failure. Online now you can find lots of good articles about Facebook and Twitter now that it’s breaking new boundaries but you’ll also find articles about the failures. Digg isn’t the only one. There’s MySpace who was once the biggest social networking site of all time, Bebo who was sold by AOL for some less than $10 million when it was bought two years ago for $850 million and who can forget Friendster.

Bebo’s Founders who cashed out big time from AOL buying them

These ups and downs of life don’t only happen to internet companies. They happen to businesses from all industries (Richard Branson is one of the entrepreneurs today that I admire the most simply because he has gone down and managed to pick himself up so many times). We just happen to hear about the internet companies the most. Knowing these things about business remind me every day how not to take anything for granted and how to keep working hard and be thankful for whatever we have today. Today Nuffnang, ChurpChurp and all the companies we have under our wing are still growing at a really fast rate but who’s to say where we’ll be in the next 5 years. We’re nowhere in the comparison of huge sites like Digg or MySpace that have made a huge impact all over the world. If they can go down, anyone can.

The Founders of MySpace who sold to NewsCorp for $650 million

The silver lining about these stories is that it’s not like all of them have gone down to zero. MySpace is still one of the Top 50 sites in America at least and the founders have somehow along the way made money. MySpace was sold to NewsCorp for $650 million back then (which are numbers we never hear on internet companies in our part of the world). Kevin Rose from Digg is said to have made some money and was one of the early investors in Zynga and Twitter.

I guess no matter where their companies are or how they end up, they are no doubt still successful people to me at least. They have at least the experience, the memories and the stories to tell from whatever they have achieved from their lives. Like they say, it’s better to have tried and failed, than to never have tried at all.

I wonder where Facebook and Twitter will be in the next 5 years.

PS: You can read the article I read on BusinessWeek 4 years ago here.

Horeca Temptations & Dinner

Last night I went for dinner at Bermuda and Onion at Changkat. I was going to have dinner with Gin, Leon, Coring, Jestina and Kitteh. The last time we all met up last week we had a really budget dinner. Duck rice. So we decided that we were going to spoil ourselves last night and wanted to have a nice dinner at a fancy restaurant. Kitteh who loves Japanese food suggested this restaurant in Imbi called Fukuya. I checked the website out and it looked really nice.

Then over lunch at work, Angeline told me that she went there once and it was like RM250-RM300 per head (although she said it was DAMN good). I got a shock. I thought then maybe Angeline just ordered expensive dishes like raw fish and all sorts of different kind of Japanese seafood. She then told me it was a set. So I went on to the website to check it out. I managed to find the menu there and realized it was the kind of traditional Japanese restaurant where you could only order sets. So you wouldn’t be able to go there for dinner and get away with just ordering appetizers or a soup.

We decided that we were feeling “rich” but not that rich. So we decided to go to one of the restaurants in Cangkat Bukit Bintang for dinner. I Googled “Cangkat Bukit Bintang” and found lots of food blogs talking about Bermuda and Onion so we decided to try it out.

P1050081

We had the hardest time finding the place only to realize that they didn’t have a signboard. It was being fixed or something. Food there was ok… but the mushroom appetizer was awesome. They fried it with butter and garlic or something and Kitteh made sure she ordered another

After dinner we went for Horeca’s Temptations event at Seven Ate Nine.

P1050084

P1050085

It was a night of booze and ice-cream! Who knew they could make such a good combination. The bartenders that night spoiled us with all sorts of different cocktails that were different combinations of booze and ice-cream.

P1050095

And the waitresses there spoilt us with all sorts of drinks and Haagen Dazs ice-cream. All that with great company and you have one wonderful night. We ended up staying till midnight when it ended.

Here are some pictures from the night. Me with Ringo.

P1050094

Gin here looking all comfy with Coring.

P1050102

Gin and Coring are both my primary school friends whom I’ve known for almost 20 years.

P1050088

Heck Gin actually goes back 21 years with me.

Me with Kitteh!!!

P1050096

Me uhm… about to gobble up the jelly desserts with booze that was made by the bartenders. It was yummy. Had quite a kick too, which explains why my face later on turned red.

P1050093

Ringo, Kitteh, Me and Ah Quah.

P1050089

Huai Bin here looking all happy!

P1050092

Some Nuffies were there that night too but I forgot to take pictures with them. Also met some of my readers there too but again I’m not sure what was with me then but it didn’t occur then for me to take pictures with them! I think it’s because by the time I met everyone else later in the night I was already a little happy and high!

To those of you who managed to come. Was great meeting you guys. Always nice to meet people the faces who read this blog šŸ™‚

Fart

Did you know that the average person farts 12-18 times a day? Everyone has a fart story somehow, either stories where they fell victim to the stench or when they got away with it. I know a particular someone who is known to fart in the car, turn off the air-con, lock the windows and laugh “HAHAHA!!!” while the other person suffered.

I though that was funny and I decided to try it on Kitteh one day. Ā Our car was at the Taman Tun traffic light waiting when I farted, shut off the air-con and locked the windows. She didn’t suffer quietly. She unlocked the windows (since the switch was in the middle), stuck her head out and used her hands to frantically fan the gas from inside the car out. All this drama while the family in the adjacent car looked on at us. I think I remember a grandmother in the back seat shaking her head.

————————-

So last night I was sitting up in bed with my legs crossed one and my laptop right in front of me, thinking of what to blog. It was the end of a really long day and there I was in my shorts and a t-shirt that I bought in Penang some 10 years ago for RM5. The trusty t-shirt had been washed some 5,000 times in the past year and it’s only gotten more comfortable.

Suddenly I felt an urge to fart. I looked around the room. I was alone. Nothing like having your own private fart with nobody around so you don’t have to say “excuse me” or pretend that it wasn’t you. I leaned to one side and let the gas go. Right after that Kitteh appeared being all cute and manja. She saw me on the bed sitting down and she ran straight for me shouting “ARRRrrrrrr!!!!” (not sure what the Arr means but it’s just one of her many expressions) attempting to hug me only to fall short and bury her head in my lap instead. Thinking that she was feeling dazed from her slight “miscue”, she lay still on my lap and said “Wanna puke wanna puke”.

Some 2 seconds later, her brain identified the smell the nose was sending to it and she realized what was going on. “FUUUuuuuuuccckkkkk YOU FARTED!!!!”. She rolled off the bed and fell on the floor. Then she stood up again and looked at me with eyes that said “I KEEL YEW!”. We looked at each other for a few seconds, then we both burst out laughing for the next 30 seconds.

That’s a recent fart story we had. What’s yours?

Takers

Last night I went for the Nuffnang Screening of a movie called Takers, compliments of Sony Pictures. I actually had some high expectations for the movie because the trailer looked great and it had Chris Brown, Hayden Christensen, Matt Dillon and Michael Ealy in it. I was right. It was great.

It’s a bit different from the usual cop chase bad guy kind of movie because in this movie, it gives you the perspectives of the bad guys and you find yourself rooting for them somehow. Catch it this weekend if you have the chance.

Mall of Memories

I was inspired to write the following entry after recently visiting a mall in Penang where I used to hang out a lot at while I was young. It’s actually a lot of scattered memories that I have of the place and maybe it’s not the typical kind of thing people blog about but I just want to be able to document these memories I have somewhere… and maybe share them with you guys.

—————————-

“Do you know that there is going to be a big shopping mall here with everything in one. Hotel, offices, a bowling alley and shops?”, my dad told my mum as we were in the car passing this big open fenced up piece of land being prepared for construction.

I couldn’t remember the year, but I remember I was still really young and in school. It blew my imagination. One big center with a hotel, offices, a bowling alley and shops? That was almost unheard of in Penang back then, apart from Komtar. I lingered in my young imagination when I heard my dad going on to say

“It’s going to be called 1-Stop”.

P1050073

Years later, a huge building was erected where that empty piece of land once stood and the whole structure came to life. Shops moved in, Berjaya Hotel opened up there and the whole shopping center came to life. There were two big blocks that were connected by bridges and a big foyer area in the center.

P1050036

It became the ULTIMATE place for teenagers to hang out. They had everything there. When we were going out with girls from another school, we would go walk around 1-Stop in typical teenager fashion. The girls will walk in front looking pretty and cute. The guys would follow behind in a cluster talking about football and acting cool. When we wanted to take it up a notch, we would go bowling on the 7th floor.

Then when time forĀ lunch came, we would eat at, KFC, McDs or the food court on the top floor.

McDs that was so often frequented by us is no longer where it used to be.

P1050064

In its place is closed shutters with a notice about its closure.

P1050063

KFC though is still there.

P1050068

Sometimes when pocket money permitted, we would go have a nice lunch at Dave’s Deli. A small franchise in Penang that was known for his chicken served ala Kenny Roger’s style. Today, all that remains of where Dave’s Deli used to be is the remains of “Rose Garden”, a shop that took over Dave’s Deli after my time.

P1050039

And if we felt rich with pocket money, we would give in to the smells of the Famous Amos cookies at the back entrance of 1-Stop. Today Famous Amos is no longer there and in its place, a Cupcake cafe.

P1050065

The fun in 1-Stop though was in the other kind of activities a young boy loved. When I was between ages 11-13, I used to play a card game called Magic The Gathering a lot. “Play”, was an understatement. I was addicted to it and it was an expensive hobby especially for a young teenager. I spent most of whatever Ang Pow money I had back then buying these cards. The place to buy them was a shop called Novel Hut in 1-Stop run by a guy named Marcus.

I used to think that he was the coolest guy ever with the best job. All he had to do was go open shop there every day and he passes his time playing Magic with everyone else. Not to mention he seemed to have the best cards ever. After I had stopped playing Magic The Gathering, he renamed his shop to Twenty Twenty and eventhough it was in no way as packed and bustling as before. It remained there till today.

P1050055

Amidst all the other closed shops around it. I never went back to say Hi to Marcus because the last time I did many years ago, he didn’t seem to remember me anymore and some awkward silence passed between us. Funny enough the last game of Magic The Gathering I ever played was in 1-Stop itself for the Malaysian Open tournament. I promised myself to stop the addiction since it was leading to a lot of bad habits on my part so I promised myself that if I played in the tournament and got to the final 16, I would quit. I actually just got to number 16. So I quit anyway.

So that part of 1-Stop ended for me only to be quickly replaced by another: CYBERCAFES.

1-Stop from 1998 onwards became like THE place for cybercafes. One of the first cybercafes there that started was called Virus and it had this system where you had to buy a prepaid card of time that you get to play on and plug it into a card slot at the computer. Once your time was up, it would just turn off the monitor. I used to hang out there a lot with my friends and we remember the owner being this hot mid-30s woman who always dressed with a short skirt.

Right after Virus, other cybercafes sprouted out all over 1-Stop and they got bigger and bigger.

P1050035

From just having 20 computers to ones that have like 100 or so of them. It got so big that some of them started linking up with each other so people could play games together. Ā In 1998 we played a lot of Half-Life and Command & Conquer Red Alert. Then Starcraft came in and eventually we discovered Counter-Strike which took up the rest of the years. I still remember all the cybercafes I used to play in. Hyperweb (which if I remember correctly was the first), Cyberweb, Cyberjacks, Swat Zone, Pyramid… they had that many and it was thriving with teenagers like me spending hours and hours playing. During the school holidays I would go to 1-Stop at 11.30AM, have an early lunch with friends and start playing at the Cybercafes from 12PM all the way to 6PM or 7PM. Looking back I do sometimes think that if I had spent all those hours on something more productive, I might have turned out a bit differently but well… it was just fun.

When I wasn’t playing computer games at cybercafe, I spent some time at the arcade playing Daytona or Time Crisis. They arcade used to be at the 7th floor but now that area is all closed.

P1050046

They moved it downstairs now.

P1050051

Daytona is this old car racing game that I used to love playing because it’s just simple and fun. Along with Time Crisis they were the most popular games there at 1-Stop.

1-Stop isn’t all about games and all for teenagers though. There are some practical parts to it. On one side of the complex is all the cybercafes and shop lots but on the other side is some proper shopping.

P1050040

There were all sorts of stuff there though. A supermarket there called Tops, a Garfield specialty store called “Huggable Cat” and lots of clothes shop.Ā Today most of the shops that used to populate the mall have closed and you see shutters there that hasn’t looked like it has been opened in a long time.

P1050043

The bubble lifts were still running as usual though. I used to remember how they took so long to get from one floor to another floor because there were so many people in it and everyone was stopping at every floor.

P1050050

Today the lifts are often empty and takes you to the top floor with hardly any stops.

P1050042

The bubble lifts were what we used to take us to the top floor of the mall where they had lots of computer shops and shops that sold PC games. Today all that are left of those shops are a handful of them and the rest of the floor is empty.

P1050047

Some shops survived till today though.Ā There is the perfume shop that one of my high school girlfriends brought me there to hint that I buy it for her.

P1050041

I still remember how strong the hint was. We were walking around there and she asked to take a look at this particular perfume called “Sunflower” or something that her friends were telling her about. She just admired it then we left the shop. When her birthday came I knew exactly what to buy her so I went to that same perfume shop and bought that “Sunflower” perfume.Ā When she unwrapped the present she looked surprise, though I know deep inside she knew. How predictable and unromantic I was.

Also there are these two Christian book stores that have survived for a long time.

P1050058

P1050056

The Watsons.

P1050061

The Artist Gallery that is really like a a Speedy Video and sold CDs, DVDs and the likes.

P1050060

Another music store that was really popular back then in 1-Stop was Music Valley. It used to be packed with people all the time and it’s where you would go to listen to all the latest music. In those days, shops all over 1-Stop will play music that was popular at the time like Michael Learns to Rock: Paint My Love or even Lemon Tree by Fools Garden. Those were sooo popular back then.

Funny enough when I visited 1-Stop recently some of the shops were playing these exact same songs which really helped me imagine a walk down memory lane. Music Valley is still there today though but it’s no longer the bright beacon of music it was back in the day. It shrunk from having two lots to just one.

P1050037

You could see how business really went bad for them when Napster and mp3 downloading came into fashion. They’re still around though. Maybe more and more people are buying original CDs now. I know I am.

This England Optical which was the place where my mum brought me to get my first pair of glasses done when I was in Form 3 back in 1999.

P1050066

I never used to have to wear glasses but after 2 years of intense computer games… I guess it was time it happened to me. After taking a good walk around 1-Stop that afternoon in present times, it was time for me to leave. I left by the front entrance, by the stairs where many times before I used to sit while waiting for my Mum and Dad to pick me up after I had a fun day out with my friends.

Those stairs used to be crowded with people coming and going from the mall. Today they are empty.

P1050070

I don’t know what really happened to 1-Stop. Maybe they didn’t seek to further improve it or maybe they just decided that it was not worth reinvesting in. The teenagers of today no longer go to 1-Stop in their free time. They flock to the new places now. The Gurneys, the Queensbays and perhaps these malls will give them a different kind of childhood experience than the one me and my friends had.

P1050033

1-Stop gave me mine… many different memories from my teenage years.

Temptations

Sponsored Post

Those of you who have been reading my blog a bit in the past would know that I have a weakness for ice-cream. It’s true… and it used to be a chronic problem too. Remember the many many instances in the past where I had went to buy a whole bucket of ice-cream just to eat.

1

Especially when I’m stressed.

2

Many times I’ve tried to figure out my lack of resistance to the temptation of ice-cream. So I did some research and it’s true. There is actual scientific proof that ice-cream makes you happy. Apparently each spoon of that triggers the same pleasure center in your brain as winning money or listening to your favourite music does.

I have a theory that it probably hits the same pleasure center that is triggered by sex too. I tried Googling for evidence of this but I couldn’ find anything to prove that. What I did manage to find though is this Cosmo article saying that apparently there actually is ice-cream that makes you horny.

Nothing like what I’ve had but ice-cream at its current state is already enough to make me hold back on it now, considering how I’m trying to watch my weight lately. If you’re laughing at me for that, I shall only say this: ā€œWait till your metabolism rate slows down too!ā€.

Sometimes though I feel that while we restrain ourselves on many things, life is only worth living if we can sometimes indulge ourselves.
Which brings to the point of this whole entry. This 27th of October from 9PM onwards at 7atenine in KL there’s going to be Temptations, an event under the Horeca School of Excellence.

3
It’s one of those parties where there’ll be ice-cream and lots of booze for a good time! I’ve been for a lot of events with booze.. but how many events have both booze AND ice-cream!!

There are also going to be 4 Encore signature cocktails and you get to be taught by a Horeca School of Excellence Mixologist on how to make your own cocktail. That means the shake, muddle, mix and pour. All this of course along with some live acts to keep us entertained.
Kitteh and I are both going and we also managed to get our hands on some drink vouchers to give out to any of you guys who want to come: 10 pairs of them. So if you’d like to come with a pair of drink vouchers leave a comment here with your e-mail and I’ll e-mail you as soon as we reach the first 10.

If you don’t make it for the first 10 to comment but would like to go for the event anyway, check out Encore’s Facebook page here. Like it and rsvp there ☺

It’s a Wednesday night… great mid-week party. I’m going to ask some of the Nuffies to go too!

See you guys there!

The Most Expensive Home, Proton Inspira and ToyWatch

Here are a few things that have caught my attention lately.

1) The World’s Most Expensive Home

It was in the news lately that Mukesh Ambani, the richest man in India and the 5th Richest Man in the world has just built the World’s Most Expensive Home. Let me show you how it looks.

mukes_ambani_tower_house_home_altamount_road

This is it. When I showed Kitteh this picture she kept looking for a house but found nothing. It’s that tall building that looks like it’s still under construction. That’s right.

Let me explain his home in numbers.

ambani1

27 floors

6 floors of car park and another floor just for his very own car service center to service his own cars

600 staff to be hired to run this household

6 members of his family that are going to be living here

$1,800,000,000 is what it cost to build and is now worth.

Can someone say… WOAH!!!!

That’s crazy. The man is owner of Reliance Industries, the largest private corporation in India and he is worth an estimated USD28,000,000,000. So I guess when you have that much money… what’s a $1,800,000,000 for a house. Only 6.5% of his networth. He is forecasted by Forbes magazine to be the richest man in the world by 2014.

You can watch this news report on his house for a better look.

2) Now Everyone Can Evo

Proton not long ago announced their replacement for the Proton Waja. It looks like this.

I thought it looked really nice actually though I thought it looked a bit familiar. After doing some research online did I only find out why it was so familiar. It’s actually a Mitsubishi Lancer with some slight modifications and a Proton badge. Man… Evo owners who spent some RM300K on their Evos were really pissed off and venting their frustration on all the sites I went to. Everything from blogs, forums, Twitter and even YouTube.

I mean I guess I can see why. I can remember how when I was in college, the trend were all these Japanese rally cars ( you know the Rx-7s, the Skylines etc etc) and the Mitsubishi Evo was one of the coolest. If you drove one to college, you were cool and you would catch a lot of attention just like a few of my lucky friends did.Girls back then totally digged guys who drove those cars too. I wonder if it’s still the same in colleges today.

Anyway, now that the new Proton looks just like the Mitsubishi Lancer (Evo), everyone can have an Evo now! In fact Ican imagine a lot of people buying Proton Inspiras and changing the Proton logo to a Mitsubishi one. Still I think it’s a nice car though and if I were to buy a Proton today, I would buy the Proton Inspira. Proton was getting quite a bit of flak online too for not coming up with a new design of its own but hey, the Myvi’s a great popular car and that’s from a Japanese car too.

That being said, I thought the Gen 2 was a really nice design. That’s Proton’s work right?

Whatever it is, with the new Proton Inspirasi… Now everyone can Evo!

3) My ToyWatch Broke

That’s right… just after a few months the wrist snapped and something inside broke too. The W for the word “Watch” on the face came out. I don’t know what happened. Didn’t drop it or anything. I just jerked my arm a little once trying to pull back my sleeve and it came out.

So I’m not sure if a ToyWatch is a good investment now if you’re looking for something that lasts.

So that’s all folks. Till the next entry šŸ™‚
