Project 365: Day 29, 15th March 2009

Ming was away in Manchester last weekend to watch the Manchester United vs Liverpool game with Pierre and Kenny.
I was driving home on Saturday night when I got hold of news that Liverpool thrashed Man U 4-1 on Man U’s home ground.
I immediately thought of Ming, the most hardcore Man U fan that I’ve had ever known. Then I thought about how angry the results would have made him especially since he flew all the way there to watch the match with Pierre.
For fear that Ming might be too angry to even look at his phone, I immediately texted Pierre.
And his reply (in white).
He was joking… I think.

We the Pillow People

HELO!
MY NAME STRONG BULL BIG BIRD OVER HIGH MOUNTAIN.

ME CHIEF OF THE PILLOW PEOPLE.

THIS MAH WIFE: BRIGHT SHINING ROMANTIC MOON OVER CALM BEAUTIFUL LAKE.

WE THE PILLOW PEOPLE…
WE ARE FRIENDLY
WE ARE COOL

AND WE….. …… we……. look incredibly stupid.

Okay okay here’s the story.
Princess was over at my place tonight and we were watching a movie. I was sitting on one of these poofs munching away on my Mister Potato and she was sitting on the couch right behind me.
Suddenly in the midst of hearing the potato chips crunch in my mouth I heard Princess start to hum a song in a rather beatbox kind of manner.
I turned around and I saw Princess looking like this,
humming the song (which she later told me was Coldplay’s Viva La Vida) and bopping her head up and down with her chin rested on the pillow.
I burst out laughing and it instantly inspired us to take stupid pictures of ourselves looking like this hence the silly entry.
Forgive us Pillow People. Very often the two of us laugh very hard about something nobody else but us finds funny.

Project 365: Day 28, 14th March 2009

This is probably one of them.

Project 365: Day 27, 13th March 2009

Was at the Nescafe Kickstart prize giving ceremony yesterday.

I was roped in as one of the judges to rate the many business plans that many young contestants came up with to win collective prizes of up to RM38,000.
The Grand Prize winner was a girl named Christy who had an SMS system that allowed you to send a text to a short code and you were automatically placed in a virtual queue rather than you having to go queue up in person.
So many young creative people… so many great ideas.
Congratulations you guys!

IT’S FINALLY HERE!!!

About a year ago, I succumbed to pressure to get myself a new iPhone. I didn’t like it that much at first to be honest. Found it hard to do stuff like type SMSs and all but after a few months of using it I fell in love with it.
Let me tell you why.
Forget the fact that it allows me to check and send e-mails wherever I go or surf the net without feeling like I have to control a little cursor with my keypad just to click on some links on the site.
Forget also about the fact that I can keep my entire library of pictures in there so whenever I miss Princess, all I have to do is whip out my iPhone and smile at her pictures.
But it’s the other stuff that matters.
Like the applications that you can download from the iTunes App Store.
They have applications for everything. Apps that help you directly access your Facebook account, apps that can record your voice and type it out on to an e-mail, apps that help you remember all your friend’s birthdays and even apps that make farting noises for people who just like being annoying in life.

For me the apps I end up using most of the time is the Currency converter because I often find myself in foreign countries.

I use the Fring application quite a bit to talk to Princess on MSN wherever I go.

A lot cheaper than sending SMSs back and forth, something I used to do years ago.
And I use certain news feeds to extract news to read on the go.
I had grown to love my iPhone but there was one thing that bothered me. Basically the iPhone hadn’t yet launched in Malaysia so any of the iPhones we brought from overseas wouldn’t work on it UNLESS we cracked it ie “jailbreak” it.

I’m sorry I’m not proud of what I bought but I’m too big an Apple fan to NOT have an iPhone. I’m sorry Apple, I have been a very bad boy but you can’t deny such a big fan the iPhone can you?

Project 365: Day 26, 12th March 2009

“Jailbroken” phones work except that there are a lot of things you can’t do. Like if you want to update your software you have to delete everything then reinstall the software all over again which is quite a mess.

But now…. I had just gotten news that…..

MAXIS HAS FINALLY BROUGHT THE iPHONE TO MALAYSIA!!!

The Maxis package for the iPhone comes with a voice and data plan for a year (which is how I know they did it in the UK when you buy a new phone) but most importantly for me is that it comes with warranty.
You should see how I abuse and drop my iPhone. Seriously, if there was the equivalent of “child protective services” for phones they would take my phone away and throw me in jail.

Now I have some shopping to do.

Things I Did in Manila

1) Woke up late on Sunday. Was too late to go down to the hotel coffee house for the nice buffet breakfast they had every morning. No thanks to Princess who I’m pretty sure would rather be spit on by a dozen yaks that be awake at 10AM on a Sunday morning.
If she were Queen of a Country, I tell you she would make it illegal for anyone to wake up before 11AM every day. She would jail anyone who did.
Fortunately we found breakfast in the club lounge near the top of the hotel.
Took a picture there without noticing the white dude behind us make pretend he’s flying.
2) Took Princess shopping where she unleashed a mini “stimulus package” of her own on the Metro Manila economy.
3) Found a Krispy Kreme store in one of the malls.
4) Indulged
5) While Princess looked on at me worried about how fat I would turn in the next few days.
6) Went sight-seeing at the “Old Manila” city.
7) I wanted to stay in the van that was taking us around but Princess saw a carriage and insisted that we get out of our modern day vehicle and sat on that medieval form of transport.
It didn’t matter to her that the horse had a shit bag tied right behind its butt to contain all its shit. With or without a bag of horse shit strapped to its ass, she wanted to be on that carriage.
8) Got on the carriage and looked down at the shit bag after my nose detected the smell of horse shit.
Made very slow movements to make sure I didn’t trip and fall into that bag of shit.
9) Woke up Monday morning in time for breakfast!  But only because I had to go for a meeting so I managed to convince Princess to wake up earlier with me.
Watched as she bragged
“HAHA! You have to work today.. I don’t have to!”
10) Went to the Nuffnang Philippines office in Bonifacio High Street (and dragged Princess along with me).
Our unit number is 2E04.
Send us Krispy Kreme please!
11) Spent a long time going through a lot of paperwork and signing my signature on so many documents that I remember wishing someone would invent a pen that would magically sign documents for me.
12) Tried to focus on work while Princess (who was feeling neglected tried to distract me).
13) After some internal meetings with the Nuffnang Philippines team, I went for a break to get some Krispy Kreme. They were giving away free donuts at that point and I ended up having 3 and a half donuts.
3 of which were given to me for free.
You just can’t turn down FREE KRISPY KREME.
14) Had a very nice dinner with the entire Nuffnang Philippines team.
15) Then went on to this bar called Mag-Net where they had this thing on Monday nights called “Rockaoke”. It’s like Karaoke except that you go up on stage alone to sing in front of everyone with a live band playing behind you.
Eric and Jay forced both Princess and I to put both our names down to go up on stage to sing but only Princess got called up in the end.

16) Watched Princess have her 5 minutes of fame on stage singing “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer. Went up to take many pictures of her and stood in the crowd admiring her.

She looked like this adorable girl on stage that everyone loved and I wish I knew. She was like a star!

17) Thought of getting her phone number once she got off stage but snapped back into reality and remembered that she’s already mine when she got off stage and gave me a hug.

Project 365: Day 25, 11th March 2009
And that everyone, was my trip to Manila 🙂

Project 365: Day 24, 10th March 2009

I just realized that I forgot to take a picture on the 10th of March 2009.
Fortunately, Princess remembered to take one

So this is Princess at the Manila Airport waiting to come home.

I was sleeping on a row of seats when she took this.

Project 365: Day 23, 9th March 2009

Went to visit a Krispy Kreme store near the Nuffnang office in Manila.
Drooled at all the glazed Krispy Kreme that were being made. The plain donuts came from the right side of the conveyor belt, then by the time they got to the left size they had their secret original glaze recipe poured all over them.
YUM!

PRIVATE!!! PEEL THE POTATOES!!!

Just today Princess and I were at GreenBelt for dinner. GreenBelt is this really nice development in Manila with loads of restaurants, bars and shopping.
I don’t know how to compare it with anything we have back in KL because we don’t have anything like that but if I were to loosely do a comparison, I’d say GreenBelt is something like Solaris in Mont Kiara but like 10 times bigger and nicer.

They’re just so many things to eat there. Persian, Filipino, Western, Chinese and all sorts of different cuisines, but Princess had to pick the type she always does: Japanese.
So we ended up eating at this restaurant called Haiku.

I don’t know if anyone of you have ever seen Princess and I together alone but we tend to do really stupid things. What made matters worse in this particular case was that she insisted I sat right next to her on the table rather than across her.
There was a big group of nice locals sitting across us. They were all talking and laughing loudly, they looked like they were having fun.
I turned to Princess to say something about the group when, wet from the tea I had just drank I accidentally spit a few drops of saliva on to her face.
She stared at me then she immediately said
“PRIVATE! PEEL THE POTATOES!!!”, and stressing each P and T sound as loud as possible to spit as much saliva as possible on to my face.
Then she burst out in laughter.
The line “PRIVATE! PEEL THE POTATOES” was a joke we always made between ourselves whenever we spit on each other while talking. It’s a reference to an episode of Friends. (the episode where Joey was acting in this WW2 Drama and had trouble focusing because his co-actor kept spitting on his face).
Anyway, with Princess’ royal saliva in my eyes I retaliated.
I shouted back at her spitting back as much saliva as possible on to her face.
“PRIVATE!!! PEAL THE POTATOES!!!”
We were both laughing very hard in the process but while it was something we always found funny, Princess is competitive.
So she struck back at me one more time.
This time she didn’t bother with any lines.
She just said
“PAH!!!”, unleashing a gush of air into my face and a barrage of saliva drops.
It was after we had both recovered from wiping saliva off our faces that we realized the entire restaurant including the very happy group of locals sitting opposite us had gone totally quiet.
Everybody had turned to look at us trying to figure out how a guy and a very small girl was making so much noise.
We both looked back at everyone else, gave a nervous laughter each and looked back down at our food.
After a moment of silence had passed, Princess managed to control her giggle for a few seconds to say to me
“I think everyone must think we are really childish.”
I agreed. We quickly finished up our food and left the restaurant to walk on to the sidewalk of the trendy GreenBelt.
Project 365: Day 22, 8th March 2009
Just right after we were out of the restaurant we started spitting on each others’ faces again. This time with different lines that we could think of.
“I PITY THE FOOL”… I said while spitting on her.
Then she went
“I PITY THE FOOL THAT PEELS THE POTATOES”.
and I removed my glasses to wipe off all the drops of saliva that flew on to it.
This process went back and forth for a while but I surrendered when she came up with the line
“PETER PIPER PICKED A PECK OF PICKLED PEPPER, A PECK OF PICKLED PEPPER PETER PIPER PICKED”.
I nearly drowned.

Project 365: Day 21, 7th March 2009

Arrived in Manila and right after Princess fell on to the bed and took a short nap while I went to work on my laptop.
I later on went to wake her up for dinner with the partners in Nuffnang Philippines only to see her with a pool of drool on her pillow.

It’s not as clear from this picture but look closely and you’ll see a little round wet stain on the pillow right in front of her mouth.

She woke up a few seconds later then saw the pool she made and said
“SHIT SHIT SHIT!!!”
Then very quickly proceeded to “pat” the drool away from the pillow repeatedly. She then looked at me with hope in her eyes that I didn’t see her very “unlady-like” drool pool.
Too bad I saw it and caught a picture of it in time.
