The Media Specialist Awards

Just the night before I left for Phuket, the Nuffies and I attended the Media Specialist Awards (MSA).

It’s basically an award ceremony to recognize the best advertising campaigns in the way they use media.

For example if I’m doing a billboard ad and I do an ad with a car that sticks out of the billboard or something and it looks really cool then plus points for me and hopefully I might win an award that night. It’s really interesting to see the kind of campaigns these people in the media agencies spend hours, days and weeks coming up with the idea and going about to execute them with media owners like Media Prima, The Star or Nuffnang.
There are all sorts of categories… like “Best Use of Radio” or “Best Use of Digital” and each award had a Gold, Silver and Bronze.
Upon arriving I quickly checked out the campaigns that were submitted for the awards and was a little surprised to see that quite a number of Nuffnang campaigns were submitted for the awards.
If you’ve been around the blogs a lot in the past year, you would recognize some of the campaigns.
There was the Chipster Pajama Party.
The Happy-O-Meter
The Mister Potato Project Trafford
The Dutch Lady Friso Family Day Out

Our Oreo Campaign

The Ribena & Lemon
Our Maxis “Wild Live” Blogging Event
And I’m not sure if we have any more but I didn’t manage to take pictures of the rest that night.
The night started very formal. Everyone was dressed their best and there were speeches after speeches while everybody sat there to listen.
I took the opportunity to take a picture with a few of the Nuffies there that night.
And of course with Princess who came along too 🙂
She so pretty!
The night quickly got going and the competitive media agencies there started cheering whenever they won something. Before long, everyone was standing up and cheering loudly when their agencies won something.
This agency called Mindshare won the most awards that night. Along with some of the Mindshare campaigns that won was a Nuffnang campaign that won a Gold. It was one of my favourite campaigns of all time… our Nuffnang Chipster Pajama Party.
I was thrilled!
And here’s Desmondkiu, the person whom the award really belongs to and whom without the Nuffnang Chipster Pajama Party would never have had taken place.
It turned out to be a pretty fun night. My first time to be honest. I’ve never really been to any of the previous MSAs but I figured I had to go for this one.
Probably go for next year’s one too.
Have a Happy Monday everyone!

Blackberry Storm and the iPhone

Lately I’ve been thinking about buying myself a new toy. I mean… I feel so out of date with my older version of the iPhone (as much as I love it).

Everyone around me now either has the new iPhone 3G or increasingly… a Blackberry. One thing I do notice though is most of the business people I know have Blackberries instead of iPhones. I was sitting in a meeting once with all the bosses of various companies in the advertising industry and guess what: I was the youngest… and the only one with an iPhone. The rest had Blackberries.

I’ve been looking to upgrade my phone lately. At first I was thinking of getting a new iPhone 3G but then after all this and after increasingly seeing quite a number of my friends carrying the new Blackberry Storm… I’m actually thinking about getting the Blackberry Storm now. Plus I recently read Xiaxue’s entry about her Blackberry and I think that kind of pushed me a bit more towards getting a Blackberry. But before I decided on anything, I decided to consult two people I knew, one who owned an iPhone and another who owned a Blackberry.

On the Blackberry side we have Nicholas.

On the iPhone side however we have… Carol.
So here’s how it went. I let Nicholas start off first with his attack.

1) Sending/Receiving MMS

Me: Okay Nicholas. So sell to me now. Why do you think your Blackberry is better than Carol’s iPhone?

Nicholas: I can send MMS! Can you?

Carol: Can! Just need to download an MMS app!

Me: Show us Carol…

Carol: I downloaded the app but it doesn’t work on my phone.

Nicholas: HAH!

Blackberry 1 – 0 iPhone

2) Push Mail

Nicholas: I get push e-mail! My e-mails come in instantly like an SMS. You have to click on download and wait for it to come right?

Carol: Yes =(

Blackberry 2 – 0 iPhone

3) Blackberry Messenger

Nicholas: I have Blackberry Messenger so I don’t even need to be online to chat with anyone else around the world who has Blackberry Messenger.

Carol: What is Blackberry Messenger? I have Fring! Can use MSN and Skype

Nicholas: Yah but Fring on iPhone sucks your battery dry really fast right?

Carol: Yeah
Nicholas: Blackberry Messenger doesn’t suck your battery dry. You can talk to everyone as long as they have a Blackberry.
Blackberry 3 – 0 iPhone

4) Opening Word Documents, Excel and Powerpoint

Nicholas: I can open Word, Excel and Powerpoint documents. You cannot right?

Carol: Cannot 🙁

Me: Oi! We can open lar! Just cannot edit only but still can open.

Nicholas: Still….

Me: Fine…

Blackberry 4 – 0 iPhone

5) Battery-life

Me: Battery life leh?

Carol: HAH!!! I tried before… last for two days without charging!

Nicholas: Mine only lasts about a day but that’s because I talk a lot! Some more it lasts with my IM and E-mails all constantly online. You not right?

Carol: No =(

Me: Yeah my iPhone battery life seems to be a little shorter now too. Lasts me only one day. Maybe because I talk a lot.

Nicholas: Yah some more if necessary I can just replace my Blackberry battery. You can’t right?

Me/Carol: No

Blackberry 5 – 0 iPhone

After a while I decided that I had enough hearing from Nicholas.

So I let Carol loose. MAKE ME PROUD CAROL!!!

1) Cooler

Me: Carol… tell us why your iPhone is better than Nicholas’s Blackberry

Carol: iPhone is cooler!

Nicholas: What !?! What does that even mean???

Carol: Yeah it’s cooler… more colour and all mah

Me: Ish…. Give us something a bit more utility based la Carol.

Blackberry 5 – 0 iPhone

2) App Store.

Carol: Got lots of games and apps with the App Store.

Nicholas: Okay fine we don’t have that many.

Blackberry 5 – 1 iPhone

3) Password Protect Phone

Carol: I can password protect my phone!

Nicholas: I also can!

Blackberry 5 – 1 iPhone

4) Touch Screen

Carol: The iPhone touch screen is a lot better than the Blackberry Storm one if you ask me.

Me: Yeah I’ve tried the touch screen out before and I’ve got to agree with Carol on that. The clicking of the screen takes some getting used to.
Nicholas: Okay fine….

Blackberry 5 – 2 iPhone

5) Virtual Piano
Carol: I have a Virtual Piano. See? *takes out iPhone and plays the virtual piano.
Nicholas: Okay fine.
Blackberry 5 – 3 iPhone

Carol went on for a while more after that on some of the fun apps she had on her iPhone and we stopped shortly right after. Things were getting a little hot and Carol and Nicholas were on the verge of throwing chairs at each other.
After the little debate I Googled “Blackberry Storm vs iPhone” and found this video.

Thought it gave a pretty fair review.

Either ways, here’s what I think. The iPhone has a lot of really fun features but I’m thinking that for business use at least the Blackberry Storm does have some decent advantages over the iPhone. And since I already have an iPhone… maybe I’ll get one.

There are a few Blackberry Storm plans out there but I think this one is the cheapest and the one with the least commitment.

Oh well… we’ll see how it goes.

Phuket with Princess: Day 2

After seeing grumpy morning Princess on the first day of our Phuket trip, I decided that the second day we had to take it slow. So I woke up in the morning, blogged about the first day and waited for Princess to wake up.
Her Royal Highness eventually opened an eye somewhere around 12.30PM. Normally that’s her first phase of waking up. She opens one eye first with body completely still. Then gradually in a span of 5-10 minutes she opens both eyes and eventually drags herself out of bed while making grumpy noises.
If you woke her up any time before the opening of the first eye… she will rain terror on you and you will shake in fear.
So I waited patiently for Princess to wake up and by 1.30PM we were at a closeby restaurant having Thai food.
Princess loves Thai food. Me… not so much. I tried to convince her that she already had Thai food in Thailand the night before. She had Tom Yam Cup Noodles in the middle of the night when she was hungry. Tom Yam Cup Noodle is Thai Food right?
But Princess didn’t fall for it. So there we were in this restaurant which actually to my pleasant surprise had really good Thai food.

I gobbled up my food quickly for after lunch we were going for the highlight of my whole trip.
Guess…. guess what my highlight of the trip is.
No it wasn’t so much the beach (as much as I loved it).

Or the snorkeling.

Nor was it the “WORLD FAMOUS A GO GO GIRLS” (When I expressed slight interest in wanting to check that out, Princess gave me a stare that was so hard and cold it could’ve killed a deer on its own).

It was…. the SHOOTING RANGE!!!
That’s right… boys will be boys…. and there are few things in life more exciting for me than guns… lots and lots of guns.

It was my second time at this shooting range. The first time I stuck with a 9mm pistol and ended up getting a score of 76% or something.
So this time round I decided to try something a bit more… I tried on a bolt-action sniper rifle complete with scope.

To my surprise, it was actually really easy to shoot. Very low recoil and really accurate too. Just aim right and you’ll be ok. My trainer who was watching me the whole time was really impressed.
I ended up getting a score of 95%.
At one point the trainer even asked me
“Are you from army in Malaysia?”
I said no.
After me it was Princess’ turn to shoot a gun for the first time in her life.
Agent Audrey Ooi reported for duty. Do not be deceived by the innocent smile and the short dress. She can shoot you… and probably hit something near you.
The trainer picked her a revolver that he felt was the easiest to use… something she could handle. She held the gun in her hand, aimed at the target which wasn’t too far in front and let out a shot.

The gun flew upwards into the air throwing the bullet somewhere else other than the target it was intended for.

Princess then turned around and looked at me shocked with big big eyes. Like she felt the gun just exploded in her hands.
She ended the day with a 54% score. So you potential bad guys out there… that means if Princess were to shoot at you, there’s a 1 in 2 chance that she will hit you.

If she shot at both your balls, statistically she would hit one of them. So don’t play play!

After Princess was done with her shooting, my trainer came back to me… still probably thinking that I’m from the Malaysian Army. He seemed eager to push me on. So he got me to try out a Colt .45 which was a handgun but with a bullet so big it made the sniper rifle’s bullets look like little satay sticks.

I think I read somewhere that the Desert Eagle that we all shoot in Counterstrike uses a .45 caliber as well…. but I think they use bigger too.
Anyway I decided that heck, I tried the 9mm before and it wasn’t a problem so this shouldn’t be too much of a problem too right? I was wrong.
The recoil was so strong that I probably ended up hitting one of the birds flying overhead (I’m sorry WWF). It was then the trainer finally accepted the fact that I was never in the army… and he started teaching me how to shoot that gun properly.
Heck in the beginning before that he even just threw me the bullets and expected me to load them into the magazine myself.
I was like… “Hello Sir…. I see them do it in movies a lot but in real life it’s a little difference… some guidance would help?”

After the first few shots I began to get better and I could feel my trainer gain a sense of pride. Then after I was done with the Colt he looked over to me like he would a Young Padawan of his and with a manic gleam in his eyes he said
“You want try SHOTGUN?”
I thought about it for a while. My brother once told me he shot a shotgun and recoil was so strong it nearly took his arm off. Then the adventurous side of me decided to go ahead with it anyway.

So he brought me outside to this empty open field with targets on the other end. Probably afraid that if I performed as badly as I did with the Colt, I might actually hurt somebody with a Shotgun.

Excited but a little worried I asked him how bad the recoil or the jerk of the shotgun was. My heart relaxed a little bit when I thought I heard him say “Less than an M16”.
I clarified
“Less than an M16?”
And to my fear he said
“No no… more than M16… MUCH MUCH MORE!”
No matter… I decided to do it anyway. I held the gun like he taught me, aimed for the target and then let it out. The very same second I heard a very loud bang, the gun jerked backwards and hit me in the arm where it was lodged against.
It hurt like a bitch and by the time I was done with the next few shots I had developed bruises on my arm just from shooting the shotgun.
Princess took a video of my first shot of the gun.

Notice how I was pushed backwards and immediately gave my trainer the gun… probably screaming
“TAKE IT AWAY FROM ME!!!”
To reduce the pain on my shoulders I eventually tried shooting the last 3 shots of the shotgun from my waist… you know like how they sometimes do in movies.
Guess what… total bullshit!
You can’t hit jack shit aiming from your waist…. and no don’t compare it to aiming from your waist when you pee. Two completely different things!
Anyway we soon left the shooting range feeling a lot poorer. Every 10 bullets we shot cost us between RM80-RM100. We spent the rest of our afternoon (and whatever little money we had left) at a Spa where we had a Sauna, Jacuzzi, Body Scrub and Thai Massage.
You get to pick all sorts of different Body Scrubs and Massage Oils.

Seriously it’s almost as if they had one massage oil for every single thing. There was massage oil for better muscles, for better sinus…. there’s probably even a massage oil that could make stupid people smart or smart people stupid.
That was the part of the trip I think Princess enjoyed the most. The Spa!

After the spa we headed for dinner at this really nice Thai restaurant by the sea…

and then back to the hotel to rest. We had to be up at 5AM the next morning to catch a flight back to KL.
I really enjoyed my trip to Phuket. It was short but it felt like we did so many things.
Thank you PYOTravel.com  for sending me on a much needed break.

Phuket with Princess: Day 1

I’m in Phuket!
Ok here’s the story. PYOTravel.com is one of our more recent clients who has been running some campaigns on Nuffnang , trying out blog advertising. I’ve never heard of the site before but when I eventually did check it out I was really surprised on how cheap some of the packages were.
I’m was lucky to meet the boss of PYOTravel.com in a meeting one day (a very nice man named Francis) and I think he could see it in my eyes then that I was overworked and very badly needed a break. So… Francis decided to send me away to Phuket… with Princess on one of these packages :).

Here’s how the trip went.
1) Arrived in Phuket on Saturday night. PYOTravel.com arranged for a car to pick us up from the airport to the hotel. First time I actually arrived somewhere and get to see a man in the arrival hall holding up a sign with our names on it.
I know I know… it’s fairly common but I’ve never had that before 🙁
2) I was very anxious about the hotel because the package I was going for was relatively affordable and it included a lot of things like pick up from the airport, or even a tour to Phi Phi Island the next day… everything paid for.
So thinking like a Kiasu person I started to reverse calculate the package and I figured the only way it could be that cheap is if they saved on the hotels.
I was pleasantly surprised though.
I was expecting Nipa Resort (the hotel I’m staying in) to be a normal kind of hotel but I found myself coming back to this.

My room even had a balcony that overlooked the beautiful pool area.

Oh and the room is really nice too.
This is the pic we took when we arrived that night.
I don’t know how PYOTravel.com manage to make these things so cheap… but they do.
3) Our tour the next day was going to start at 7.00AM. If only you guys could’ve seen the look on Princess’ face when she heard that she had to wake up at around 6.00AM tomorrow to make it for the tour.
She looked so angry… it was almost as if she thought the world was going to end.
And this is how she looked the next morning at 6.45AM.
She wasn’t happy.
4) The tour van took us to a pier where we boarded a boat to take the 90 minute journey to Phi Phi Island.
Fortunately for me I brought a book to read during the whole journey.

I took some pictures but Princess was still so sleepy she could barely open her other eye for hte picture.

That was at least… until I opened the window… then Princess had BOTH eyes closed.

5) The boat then finally stopped nearby one of the islands for everyone to get off and do some snorkeling… or to just camwhore outside the boat.
In 10 minutes, many of the fellow tourists on the boat started jumping off the back in their snorkels. The good swimmers went with snorkels and fins.
The not-so-good swimmers weren’t excluded though. They were all given a life vest so they could still go snorkeling. If they didn’t swim, all they needed to do was flip.
Soon it was my turn….
And this is me snorkeling while Princess stayed on the boat and took a picture of me.

There was a lot of fish down there.
For the first few minutes that I was down there… I thought for a moment that all of us down there would be in so much trouble if the fish suddenly decided that it felt like trying men for breakfast.
6) After snorkeling for an hour the boat took us for a tour around the other Phi Phi Islands.
The view was beautiful.

They even took us to this cave where they harvest Bird’s Nest.
7) Then it was time for lunch. They dropped us off at a part of Phi Phi Island where we could all sit by the beach and have a nice buffet lunch.
I grabbed the opportunity to take this really nice picture of Princess.
And I asked her to take one back of me but this was what we got.
I think she tried to make up for it by taking this candid shot of me later on from below…
She laughed
“HAHA You look like a giant!”
FEE FAI FO FUM
We eventually got a good picture together though.
8) We spent the rest of the lunch watching a man we referred to as “Ugly naked guy” (Remember Ugly Naked Guy from Friends?).

Ugly naked guy was with some friends of his having some drinks on the table next to us when he suddenly took off all his clothing except for his underwear. When he stood up straight you could actually even see his ding dong fighting for air through his underwear.
Being naked and all, I think after a while ugly naked guy started to feel a little bit overexposed.. or maybe even.. a little cold. So he decided to put another item of clothing on…. A HAT.

Then off he went to the beach to lie down. He even got one of his friends to take pictures of him while he made poses to make himself look sexy.
We later on made friends with his friends though.
Look we even took a picture with them!
They were nice.
9) Princess and I spent some time after lunch just sitting on a swing by the beach overlooking this view and just talking.
I don’t know how to describe that moment once again but just sitting there and hearing the sound of waves… just made all the stress and work stuff from home so far away. It really helped my mind really escape everything.
If you’re really stressed up at work with deadlines and all… I would really recommend just hopping on to one of these trips to get away from it all even just for a few days.
That moment of escape… made the whole trip worth it.
10) Well that… and having an ice-cold beer by the beach.
And you know what’s better than having an ice-cold Heineken in the cool beach breeze on Phi Phi Island?
Having an ice-cold Heineken in the cool beach breeze on Phi Phi Island and having an adorable Princess sayang you at the same time.
I could almost see little angels flying around us.
11) We left that island after the beer and headed to the more commercial side of Phi Phi Island. Phi Phi Island Don.
Did a bit of shopping there and taking some pictures but that was about it.

We were so tired we just couldn’t wait to go back to the hotel to rest.
12) We got back safely to the hotel a couple of hours later… then took a shower and went out again for dinner. I was so hungry I could eat a hippo for dinner so we headed to this restaurant called Buffalo Steak.
They had good steak.

After that we walked around some streets near Patong Beach and took some pictures.
This is a picture of me that screams “I’M A TOURIST!!!”
And if my skin colour and my dressing doesn’t tell you that I’m tourist… maybe that map on my hand will.
The only thing about being a tourist is that just like everywhere else in the world… you get a little harassed by touts or people trying to sell you something.
It’s not as bad as the damn touts in Shanghai’s Nan Jing Lu but over here you just had people constantly asking you if you want a new suit, or a Thai Massage… or even a ride on these Tuk Tuks then tend to overcharge tourists.

Last night we were caught in a rain and this Tuk Tuk wanted to charge us RM30 just to take us to our hotel which was just 5 minutes down the road.
While shopping last night, I found a solution to all these touts though… and my solution came in the form of a shirt I just bought.
Which was probably an idea by a frustrated tourist.. or a local Thai with a good sense of humour.
Nah.. it’s not that bad… they’re quite polite here… (unlike Shanghai where they’re just plain annoying).
Okay now I gotta get started with my 2nd day in Phuket guys.
Update soon 🙂

Notes: Birthday Wishes from Nuffnangers

In my previous entry about the Nuffnang Tiger Party, I told you guys about the birthday surprise the Nuffies and Princess had for me right?
All the Nuffnangers at the end of the night suddenly came around to stick all these post-it notes of birthday wishes for me… and on me 🙂
At the end of the night, I went for supper with the Nuffies in what I thought was the longest Mamak table I have ever seen…
at least until I saw another group of Nuffnangers pull this off.
After supper, I went home and took a long shower… then finally got all the birthday wishes I got together to read them one by one.

There were just too many of them to put all up here but here are a few of my favourites.
There were the very strong Nuffnang supporters 🙂
There were the very strong Tim & Princess supporters …
There were also ones that scolded me again for ‘spoiling the market’ when it came to Princess.
And one Star Trek fan that asked me to quickly “reproduce little Tims”
And of course there was Wafu, Pafu and Miao.
And even one from an old friend I was given the opportunity to help once before.
Then there were some inspirational ones like this
and one from Cecilia Cheung
If you’re wondering who and why, look at the girl with me in this picture (Pinkpau)

Then think Edison Chen.

And finally… there were some from the Spartans.

Thank you for the very nice notes my fellow Nuffnangers. I didn’t manage to post them all up here but I enjoyed reading every single one of them.

Okay I gotta go now. Gotta head to the airport soon.
Princess and I are going somewhere for a short trip.
Can anyone guess where?
I’ll give you a hint. The trip is a package from this site.

Tickets To Watch the Premiere of Transformers 2

Hey Guys,
Transformers 2 is coming out soon and courtesy of UIP Malaysia, I’ve got 5 pairs of tickets (that’s 2 tickets each for 5 people) to give away to watch the screening.
The screening is going to be on the 22nd June (Monday) at 9.15PM at Cineleisure Damansara.
Princess and I are going to be there at the screening too so if I’m lucky I get to meet the 5 of you who win the tickets.

I love meeting my readers!
Now I know there are only 5 pairs of tickets to give away when there are a lot more of you out there but I’m sorry, this is all I have. So here’s what you have to do to get the tickets.

Just shoot me an e-mail at lengmoublogs@yahoo.com and tell me how badly you want to watch Transformers 2. Don’t forget to leave me your name and your contact number. The first 5 e-mails will get two tickets each from me ok? I’ve gotta work with this first come first serve basis at least until the day I’m given enough tickets to give out to all of you plus date. Sorry guys 🙂
If you’re looking for inspiration on why you want to watch it, check out the trailer.
HOLY SHIT… I REALLY WANTED TO WATCH IT AFTER SEEING THE TRAILER.
Good luck everyone!
Update: Okay guys… I woke up this morning to realize that there are more e-mails than I have tickets to give away so I’m going to close this for now. Will e-mail to let you guys know if you got it.

Nuffnang Tiger Stand Out Party

Last Saturday we had one of the largest Nuffnang Blogger parties ever in HQNine at TTDI Plaza with close to 300 attendees. This time we worked together with Tiger on this… so naturally it was a party with lots and lots of booze.
Just about all our parties have some sort of theme for people to dress up and that night the theme was to wear anything that “Stands Out”. The best dressed male would win an XBOX 360 and the best dressed female would win a Coach bag.
The best dressed male came as Edward Scissorhands
and the best dressed female was….
It’s unbelievable… the number of girls that night who wanted to win the Coach bag so badly. Some even told me how badly they wanted to win but unfortunately I had no say in the judging.
I’m going to let the photos tell the story of the rest of the night.
1) Here’s a picture of the main people responsible for putting the party together.
and this is the client Eileen,
Who many many times warned us before the night that if anything went wrong that night she would “Come after us”.
2) And a picture of some of the Nuffies that went that night.
3) We had a wall right outside the party Nuffnangers who did the best pre-event entries could put on their hand print there.
4) Just around 7PM or so the crowd started to gather.
And as the sky darkened, a lot more Nuffnangers started crowding around outside HQNine.
Registering themselves and getting their goodie bags.
5) The Spartans showed up shortly after all dressed for war.
I couldn’t help but laugh when I saw them. If you’re wondering why… then make sure you’ve seen this.
They were like celebrities to me! And I was star struck… especially when one of them called my name “Timothy!!!”
I was expecting him to say
“MADNESS??!?!? THIS… IS… SPARTA!!!!”
and kick me down a deep dark longkang but instead I ended up taking a picture with them.

6) There were lots of games that night with Liang and Jojo Struys taking the stage as the emcees.
One of them involved having two grown men put stockings on their heads and have a little tug of war.
Kenny who went as Susan Boyle that night
won the match.
Seriously… it wasn’t even a challenge to Kenny.
Check this out. He pulled this guy so hard he almost swung the guy through the window in front of him.
This is Susan Boyle celebrating after she swung his competing finalist to Abu Dhabi.
And Susan Boyle giving her tearful “Thank you speech”.
While everyone else watched on
7) There were lots of prizes that were given away that night too. Apart from the XBOX 360 and Coach Bag, there were like Nintendo DS Lite’s that were given away.
For the other people that didn’t win best dressed, we also gave out little goodie bags with a little bolster in it but with a hidden Topshop/Topman voucher inside.
8) Oh and I nearly forgot the food.
For some reason there were two buffet lines but everyone just seemed to want to line up only at one. The other line was completely empty.
I think it’s because Nuffnangers are all so polite they just decide to queue where everyone else is queuing so it doesn’t look like they cut anyone’s line.

9) Here’s the big surprise of the night.

The party was held on the 6th of June which also happened to be my birthday. Whatever it was I made it very clear to Robb that this was going to be a Nuffnang Tiger party and not my birthday party so I told him to make sure there was no birthday related thing or anything.
Robb and the rest of the Nuffies though… disobeyed. Apparently with authorization from the other Founder of Nuffnang (Ming),

Robb and Princess ignored my orders and put together a surprise for me.
At the end of the night Liang announced that it was my birthday and Princess appeared with a cake in her hand.
This I thought was the best picture of the night.
When I saw this picture of Princess holding the cake later on, my heart melted. Princess was walking towards the stage and everyone was singing Happy Birthday when she happened to walk under the gush of air from a ceiling air-con. All the candles were blown off and everyone rushed to light it back on which was when this picture was taken.

Right after I blew the re-lit candles off the cake everyone started coming up to me and pasting these little post-it notes on me. I later found out that they had earlier distributed these notes quietly to the Nuffnangers there that night and asked them to write a birthday wish.
At the end of the night I went through the notes and there were some really touching and really funny birthday wishes.
I think I’ll dedicate a fresh new blog entry to them in the next few days and share some of them then.
Until then my dear readers!

How My Surprise Birthday Party Turned Out To Be Not A Surprise

Updated: Just added a few more pictures that I just got from Yee Hou.
Since like a month ago, Princess was planning a surprise birthday party for me. A party that I knew everything about by the time I showed up at Modestos last Friday night for dinner.
Here’s how I figured everything out.
1) Suet Li
The first news I ever heard of the party was from her.

She had just come back from the USA and we were both at Princess’ house having a family dinner. She as the gf of Princess’ brother and me as the bf of Princess 🙂
Suddenly at the dinner table she shouted out at me
“EH!!! Why you never invite me for your birthday party?? You invite Jia Meei but didn’t invite me lah!”
I looked at her confused.
“What birthday party?”
And then I looked over at Princess who by then was giving out a very nervous look (though she was trying really hard to act cool).
Then I hugged her and laughed
“Awww my Baby’s planning me a birthday party!!!”
But Princess denied it…
So by then I knew that Princess was doing something for me. Though in the end we just decided between me and her that we were just going to have a quiet dinner with just the both of us and then meet friends for drinks later.  I just didn’t know the details…. until the day of the party itself.
2) Yee Hou
On the day itself Yee Hou called me to tell me that he had to apply for last minute emergency leave for something. So I said okay.
But he later on added
“But don’t worry dude… I’ll be back in time for tonight”.
At that point I was like
“Huh? Tonight?”
And he said
“Yeah the surprise party… OH SHIT!”
Then I laughed.
But it didn’t get so bad yet. Here’s when everything really spilled out.
3) Suet Li (AGAIN)
Suet came by to visit us Nuffies having lunch on Friday. After her quick Hi’s she had to go. Just before she left she said to me
Suet: See you tonight! Eh where is it again ar? It’s in Capsquare right?
Me: Huh?
Suet: Must be right? I mean in KL itself only got one Modestos at Capsquare right?
All the Nuffies there who knew of the plan kept totally quiet and then later proceeded to scold her for leaking out the plan. Suet apparently had forgotten or something that it was meant to be a surprise. When Princess later found out that Suet had accidentally leaked it out, she was furious. In Suet’s defence though, she thought I already knew about the party.
So I knew we were going to Modestos but I thought maybe for drinks later after Nicholas finally admitted to me
“Hey dude.. we’re just having drinks at Modestos ler.. not dinner”.
So I still thought that I was going to have a quiet dinner with Princess at Jake’s as we had planned. Something I was actually beginning to look forward to.
4) Pierre
Then sometime after lunch, Pierre called me up to ask
“Eh bro! Tonight what time and where again ar?”
I immediately stopped him from saying anything more and said
“I don’t know and I’m not supposed to know. So just ask Princess”.
5) The Final Blow
One hour before I was supposed to pick Princess up for dinner. Just as I was about to leave the office I asked the Nuffies where they were going to go for dinner before we met up later for drinks and Robb quickly presumptuously shouted
“Don’t pretend lar! We know you know everything! We’re all eating together at Modestos lah!”
I wasn’t pretending. I really didn’t know. But after that one reply I knew. By the time I picked Princess up I knew exactly what was going to happen. It was going to be a dinner with 30 or 40 of my close friends at Modestos (though she accidentally missed out Cheng Leong in all the rush. Sorry dude).
Unfortunately I don’t have many pictures from the night because I was too distracted but here are the few I have on my camera.

And one of them with me drinking a Flaming Lamborghini that they all made me drink later on.
After dinner that night, some friends came over to my place to chill for a while.

Kenny challenged Kim to a game of Nintendo Wii Boxing. And Kenny ended up losing but it’s not his fault. For some reason I often lose to girls in Wii Boxing myself… something about the damn game!
At the end of the night, Princess hugged me and asked if I was happy. I said yes. There’s just nothing better than spending your birthday with the friends that matter and nothing better than having someone put so much effort to put everything together for you. The surprise element in the end didn’t really matter.
Though I did tell her that if she wanted to do a surprise next time she needed to brief everyone properly and have some kind of back story to it just in case I asked. Just like how I skillfully planned hers a few months ago 🙂
I don’t think my Princess can do it though. She’s too innocent, honest and naive 🙂
Thank you Princess for organizing my 25th Birthday Party for me 🙂

Birthday Surprise

Princess planned me a surprise birthday party last night that didn’t eventually end up as a surprise because everyone started ‘accidentally’ spilling the beans.
I had fun though… nothing like being around close friends.
To all my friends who came and for those who wished me on Facebook, Twitter and text messages, thanks so much for your wishes.
And thank you Princess, for putting everything together 🙂
Will update more about it when I get more pictures. I only have a few from my camera. Here’s one.
In the mean time… tonight we have the Nuffnang Tiger party to look forward to.
Check out all the beer we’re going to be having there.
Must… control… myself….
Updates soon guys!

Things You Draw In Meetings

I was with Mehlin the other day at her office and she took out this notebook to take down some notes from our meeting.
In the notebook I saw some cute drawings.

I said “I’m guessing… you did this in a boring meeting?”

And she said “Yes“.
She even drew another one that said
“Where’s the idiot?”

And had the little cartoon point to a colleague next to her.
I think this is how we sometimes keep ourselves sane in boring lectures or meetings.
