Wombeh & Domokun’s Photo Album

Princess and I have this thing about presents. We’ve always agreed that we don’t need an occasion to buy presents for each other. Be it Christmas, Anniversary or anything like that. We just decided that whenever we see something that we think the other person would like, we buy it there and then. It can be any time of the year. So we don’t expect Christmas or Anniversary presents from each other. Except for Birthdays though. We still expect birthday presents haha!
So I’m not sure if I should call this a Christmas present because it isn’t exactly one. What I can call it though is my “Best Present of 2009”. All it was… a photo album with the pictures of Wombeh & Domokun.

Oh Princess and I refer to each other now as Wombeh & Domokun. Me being Wombeh (which comes from the word wombat because when she saw a wombat in Australia she thought it was cute). I on the other hand refer to her as Domokun because she sometimes goes “RARARA!!!”. I’m sure the names we call each other will change in the next 3 months so don’t get too used to it.
Okay back to the album Princess gave me.
In case you’re wondering, the 10th of October 2008 is the estimated date that we got together as a couple. The exact date is still a mystery for us because I didn’t exactly ask “Will you be my girlfriend?”. We just… somehow started treating each other like bf/gf and I guess one day we both understood that we were in a relationship.
The great thing about photo albums with pictures in them is that they never grow old. I will never get bored of receiving photo albums with pictures in them because I think it takes a lot of effort to hand pick each picture. Besides, when someone gives you a photo album with pictures.. you’re not just getting a “photo album with pictures”. You’re getting a whole condensed book of memories you’ve had with that someone.
That makes photo albums such great gifts! I’m sure some of you guys out there have done it at least once before for your other half. If you haven’t then do it! I think it makes a great gift.
Princess’ photo album was a page by page story of us. The story of “Wombeh & Domokun”. She put in each picture and some captions on which period of our relationship was that picture taken.
With Princess’ permission, I’m going to share a few of them with you guys. Notice the captions she wrote on each page.
This is the first picture.
This is us at the Nuffnang V-Post party in Singapore a year ago.

Yep… this picture was taken at the start of my Paul Frank craze. I now have like an entire wardrobe of Paul Frank t-shirts.

I LOVE GROCERY SHOPPING!

If you’re wondering why “Sebastian babeh”. It’s because I turn red when I drink and that picture was taken after I’ve had a little too much to drink.

Ah yes it’s true. We used to be so much more happening as a couple. Going out and all. Now all we (yes we.. not just me but Princess too) wanna do is stay at home and watch DVDs.

Princess with her “Stitch ears” in Disneyland HK noming me.

Yah Princess said she looked tall in this picture. With long model-like legs. So she loves this pic.

This is how she used her photo editor to sissify one of our pictures.

And the surprise or not so surprise birthday party she planned for me this year. It was a total failure of a surprise but I’m happy she tried.

Yes it’s true. We became a boring couple that only hang out with each other on weekends.

This is us at the Nuffnang Asia-Pacific Blog Awards (NAPBAS) dressed our best.

And the rest of the photo album I shall keep for myself 🙂
You gotta share some of the love… but you also gotta keep some for yourself right?
Heh.
Thank you for the great present baby!

The Nuffnang Team’s Christmas Dinner ’09

Ever since Nuffnang started, it has always been a Nuffnang tradition that every year end, the Nuffnang team would have a Christmas dinner together just to get together at the end of the year.
Last year instead of a Christmas dinner we did a Christmas lunch and it was held in Singapore.

This year however we held it in KL.

To add on to the Christmas Dinner, every year we also have a Secret Santa initiative where everyone is supposed to receive a present from a secret someone on that night. This was how some of our presents looked like last year in Singapore.

And this is the one THIS year!
The table seems to get longer and longer each year. Today there are some 40 people who work at Nuffnang all over the region but due to the logistics and depending on everyone’s personal schedule not everyone makes it down for the dinner.
This year some 20 of us made it.
Here are some of the Nuffies that made it that night.

Elaine, Robb and Firdauz

Raine, Michelle and Rina

Karen, Elise, Jestina and Shun Yau
Xin Xian, Soon Tak and Yee Hou
At the dinner, Ming ordered like a huge slab of steak just for himself.
Something like 1.5kg I think. The surprise look on his face when he saw the size of the steak was priceless.
He ended up sharing it with everyone else.
Throughout the whole dinner, the Nuffies took turns to share what they hope to be able to see next year in Nuffnang (also another tradition) and of course Ming gave a speech.
Ming talked about how we’re really grateful to have a really fun and open working environment here at Nuffnang where everyone treats each other like family but it’s all up to each and every Nuffie to hold up our key Nuffnang principles and maintain this fun environment we have.
After all the great food and the sharing session was over, it was time for the highlight of the night. PRESENTS!!!
My secret Santa was one of our Singapore Nuffies who bought me an iPhone cover for my iPhone.

Yay! I’m using it now as we speak 🙂
I on the other was Raine’s Secret Santa.
I was thinking really hard about what to buy Raine for Christmas but the thing that I always noticed about her was how she was very into make-up. So I knew she liked cosmetics and one thing I notice about my own girlfriend is that Princess is really into Japanese cosmetics. So I went to Japan and bought Raine a small bag of all different types of Japanese cosmetics.

I can’t even remember what some of them are called… since I know so little about cosmetics. Fortunately I had Princess who did all the picking for me.
Raine liked the present… or at least she told me she did.
Now the Nuffies are really nice to both Ming and I. Every year they would prepare some kind of surprise for us. This year’s surprise came in two big boxes.
Inside each box was a Christmas tree that was decorated with small little cards that closed up.
Each card was supposed to represent a Nuffie from the KL or Penang office and on the outside of the card they had a little clue about that person.
For example, one card wrote.
And inside the card was the person’s face.
So they all made Ming and I play a game to take turns and guess who was behind each hint. Ming and I got like 60% of the guesses wrong… but it’s not because we didn’t know much about them. It’s because the clues were like ridiculous.
Like one clue was “A pencil that needs constant sharpening”.
Now what the hell was that supposed to mean?
To make matters worse for us, every time we got a guess wrong we had a punishment. Like they put on a pair of reindeer ears on our head all the way to shooting us with a water pistol.
In the end it was all in good fun and I went home that night with a great gift from the Nuffies. I always think that sometimes, the most thoughtful gifts are made… not bought.
So thank you Nuffies. Thank you for the great present and for the great night.
And to the rest of the Nuffies who didn’t manage to make it that night, we all missed you!
Merry Christmas everyone!

Mister Potato Fiesta

I was at the Mister Potato Fiesta last weekend. It was Mister Potato’s first really big foray into an event that aimed to engage bloggers in Malaysia and it was something my good friend Pierre had always wanted to do.
So Princess and I made sure we were there to support him. Heck even Ming came down from Singapore just for the event at Mist Club, Bangsar.

Here are some pictures from the night.
1) Liang was the emcee that night and once again he pulled off one hell of a show. I remember many people that night tell me that Liang was just freakin amazing. Really funny and spontaneous… always manages to get the crowd going!
2) Say hello to Princess and Mister Potato!
3) Even the real-life Mister Potato from the TVC made guest appearance. His real name is Sham but that night, we all knew him as Mister Potato.
4) Pierre giving a speech on stage wearing his sombrero.

5) He brought me a sombrero too. See?
That’s my sombrero and me with Beautifulnara.
6) Me, Princess and Redmummy.

7) Some of the winners that night who went home with a total of RM20,000 in cash.

The winners were from the Mister Potato blog contest and also the best dressed that night.
The person who won the best dressed was this lady here.
And this is the blogger who did the best entry and won like RM5,000 that night.

RM5,000! I remember all of us looking at each other on how we could really use that money ourselves 🙂
8) Myself with Mr and Mrs. Pierre Pang.
You guys remember Mr and Mrs Pang right? Remember… the …. *grumble* perfect couple…
9) And those two faces you see on that cardboard body of a Mexican band is… Princess and me.
10) As if Liang’s emceeing and people dressed in Mister Potato outfits dancing around wasn’t enough fun for the night, Mister Potato even got Hujan to come perform.
I’ve always heard a lot about Hujan but never once got the chance to see or hear them perform. They were great… so energetic and they really knew how to engage the crowd.
I loved the part they sang the Mister Potato jingle. Everyone went wild!
11) Some of the Nuffies that were there that night.
12) This is a group of us who were there that night after the party ended. Ming in the blue shirt was already tired from all the excitement earlier. Yawning away.
13) And our last cheers to celebrate the end of the night.

Ah what a great night.

8 Things I Love About Japan (Part 2)

5) Harajuku
When in Tokyo, Princess brought me shopping twice.

The first time at Shibuya, at this mall called Shibuya 109.

Now Shibuya must be a girl’s shopping paradise but if it’s that to a girl, it’s a disaster for a guy who likes to shop. Why?
Simply because just about every shop in the entire huge mall was selling only stuff for girls. Nothing for guys. So I spent an hour or two in there just walking around with Princess and looking at the other pitiful boyfriends who were doing the same national service for their girlfriends.
It was terrible I tell you.. terrible! At one point I even wanted to go to the toilet and I couldn’t find one for guys. All the toilet signs let to a single door that had the female toilet logo on it.
A mall with shopping only for girls and toilets only for girls. That’s like saying “fuck off guys!”. Then again maybe the gents toilet did exist but I was just too blur to find it.
After Shibuya though we went to Harajuku and there.. while they had a lot of girl things there, they also had a LOT of guy stuff.
The guy clothes they had there weren’t expensive. About the same price for a shirt that you would pay in Malaysia but they were a lot nicer, had very unique designs too. If you guys are interested then comment at the end of this entry and maybe I’ll post a blog entry with some of the nice shirts I got from Harajuku.
6) The Trains
I love the trains in Japan. It’s not just the bullet-train but even the public transport.

The trains come so frequent and they’re very very punctual. The bullet-train of course is… totally out of this world.

The commuters in Japan often eat these kind of packed meals on the train. So trying to act like local, we bought some ourselves.
Here’s what’s on the inside.

The food was cold but nice nevertheless.
They move so fast you feel as if you’re on an airplane.
7) Hot Spring
I took the bullet-train from Tokyo to Hakone and spent the night there. Hakone is a place in the mountains not far from Mount Fuji.
It’s a little hot springs resort village where people go just to relax.

We stayed in this Japanese-style resort that was really nice and had some really traditional Japanese elements to it.
The rooms for example were all Japanese-styled with tatami mats and all.

The whole point of going to that resort is just to relax, chill, eat the good food they all prepare for you and then go sit in the hot springs (Onsen).
The Onsen is a whole new different experience. There are outdoor and indoor Onsens but its divided by gender because nobody is allowed to wear anything when they go into the Onsen. Not even swimming trunks.
Being a bit shy and not wanting to compare cocks or anything like that, I opted for the private Onsen where I had the whole thing for myself. It was an outdoor one so first you go out in the open all naked when it’s like 0-5 degrees out there. Then you take a quick shower in the open and then slowly go into this pond of hot water.
Being so hot you sometimes have to gradually go in toe by toe but when you do get your whole body in. It feels just great.
8) The People
The one last thing I love about Japan is the people. Even coming from a developed country like themselves, they’re all so humble and obliging. A lot of the people there didn’t speak English but even the ones who didn’t, always made a bit effort to help us out and try to understand what we were saying in order for them to help us.
This is a picture of two of the resort staff that was with us in the Hakone resort.

I will miss Japan. I told myself though that I probably won’t be able to go back there in the next 5 years because it’s just too expensive. With the money you spend on a trip to Japan, you can probably afford to go anywhere else in the world.
I highly recommend that if you have the chance… go ahead and go for at least once in a lifetime. It is worth experiencing Japan.

Dumb

While washing up in the morning…

Me: *applies moisturizer on face* Why this moisturizer so watery one…

Princess: Mine’s like that too. See which one you using?

Me: This one.. *points*

Princess: *Takes closer look* That’s… a cleanser.

Me: *gives horrifying look at both cleanser and moisturizer bottles next to each other that look the same* HUH?! OH NO…. I used it as moisturizer before I slept last night.. (applied it and didn’t wash it off thinking it was moisturizer)

Princess: AUUUGHHHH *disgusted*

Me: *sigh* Dumb me.

8 Things I LOVE About Japan (Part 1)

I’m coming back to KL today after having spent almost a week in Japan. It’s been such a great holiday. I knew it was a great holiday when one day during the trip, I totally forgot what day of the week it was. That was when I knew… I was truly on a holiday.
I gotta love Japan. Apart from everything costing a bomb (made worse by the strong Yen now), I love it. Here are a few things I love about Japan.
1) The Food!
The food in Japan was amazing. We had a lot of great meals in Japan.
Everything from Shabu Shabu to Teppanyaki
Sushi and all but my favourite of all was from this little underground restaurant in the middle of Tokyo. It’s so easy to miss when walking on the street. All you see is a small sign and a staircase that leads downstairs.
When you do go down, you find a small restaurant that can fit something like 20 people in there.
They serve some chicken ball or shitake mushroom skinners but the highlight for me is this.
Salmon with rice.
You can have almost the same thing with chicken but salmon was my favourite. All they put in there is rice, salmon and some sesame but it all tasted so good.

My Dad found out about this place from his Japanese friend. According to my Dad, this is like the Japanese version of “Economy Rice”. Cheap (relatively) but good food 🙂
2) Vending Machines
They’re everywhere and they have all sorts of really cool drinks, both hot and cold.
Allow me to illustrate in pictures how much I love vending machines.
This is me buying a drink at a vending machine in Tokyo.

This is me buying another drink at another vending machine in Tokyo.

This is me buying….
well it goes on.
And this scene was repeated no less than 10 times throughout the few days I was in Tokyo.
My favourite drink from the vending machines is this.
3) The Ofuro !
Not sure if I spelt that the way it’s meant to be spelt but let me explain what that is. In the bathrooms in Japan you often find a bathtub right next to the shower head. Unlike Malaysia where the shower head is normally right on top of the bath tub, the shower head this time is placed on the floor area right next to it.

I learned from Princess that the whole reason for that is because in Japan, the Japanese first shower at the spot right next to the bath tub. Once they’re done, they soak in the bath tub of warm water for as long as they want to warm the body up so that when you do eventually get out of the bathroom you aren’t jumping around in the cold.

I decided to live the tradition of soaking in the Ofuro throughout my whole trip and I found sooo addictive. Sooo relaxing.
Plus filling the tub is so pain-free because of technology. In some places there is a panel on the wall where you can just set it to the temperature you want to set it to and the tub will automatically fill itself.

I love this feature! Just as much as I love the bidet in the toilet and the sinks where you have automatic soap, water and hair dryer all just by putting your hands in different parts of the sink.
So awesome.
Ahh love the technology in Japan.
4) The City Lights!
The other one thing I love about Japan or more specifically Tokyo is… the city lights at night.
Look at how beautiful it looks at night.
I’ll write about the remaining 4 things I love about Japan in the next part.
Until then… see you guys 🙂

What’s your Number? (Mine is RM3,411,333)

Advertorial

Here’s how I think life is like.

When we were all young and students, we didn’t have to worry so much about money. We got some allowances every now and then which paid for whatever little things we needed to buy and we work part-time jobs during our holidays to earn a little bit of extra money if we want to spend a little more on something.

For big ticket items, some of us lucky ones get to beg and pester our parents to buy them for us. Like a new XBOX, a new mobile phone or the likes.

You don’t really know in detail where the money comes from and how much of it is there but it often seems enough so that’s all that matters.
After graduation though, things start changing. Once you get a job and start earning like RM1,800 a month we begin to really understand what our parents meant when they tell us that money is indeed hard to earn. Still though, we get by. We do a bit of financial planning in the sense that if there is something we want to buy, like the new Blackberry Curve, we just have to save up a few months’ salary and we’re good to go.
Sooner or later though, things start to change.
You start to need a car and a place of your own. So you take on a car and housing loan to buy them, slapping on some monthly commitments on yourself and before you know it, a huge chunk of our monthly salary goes out to pay these commitments.

That’s just somehow the way modern society is like. Most of us can’t possibly afford to buy a house or even a car in cash. Think about how much we earn and think about how much a decent apartment costs. That’s like RM300,000-RM400,000.

How many years do you have to work and save before you have that much money in cash. For many of us it’s tens and tens of years… so we all borrow and we live the rest of our lives working off the debt we accumulate. That’s why banks do so well because they sell products that society needs: Financing. Without financing most of us won’t be able to buy the cars or the houses we live in for most of our lives.
Plus your commitments get even more because sooner or later you get married. I’m 25 and this year alone I know at least 5 of my friends have gotten married.

Then you’ll have to think about how much it costs to raise a family, pay for your kids education and then sooner or later it’ll probably dawn on you that…. While you’re spending so much time and money already trying to survive while you have a job. What happens when you retire?
Well the answer to that is…. Pray that you have enough personal and EPF savings to maintain your lifestyle. Or…. have a retirement plan.

I’ve actually seen quite a number of my friends already sign up for some of these plans where they pay a small amount each month for some peace of mind. So that they know they have some money saved for them when they retire. The question of course is… how much money do you really need?

I mean… you don’t want to be saving every single cent your whole life. You want to be able to indulge every once in a while right?

So the answer to that I guess is a tool Prudential has on their website called the Prudential Retirement Calculator.

This is how it works.
First you put in your current age and when you plan to retire.

Then you put in a scale of how comfortably a lifestyle you want to live when you retire.

For me I put it all the way to the end at “INDULGENT”. Simply because… hey… if I’ve come to the end of my life after spending the past 40 years working, I’d really like to indulge in whatever money I earned in the past 4 decades.
Then they kind of break it down for you where you would be likely to spend your money based on the Malaysian Report of Household Expenditures. Kind of like a study that aggregates where Malaysian Households spend their money.
You can choose to modify some of the categories.

Like for me I decided that by the time I was 65, I would probably own my own home free of my mortgage. So I won’t have to pay rent or a mortgage. So housing would be 0.

Travel & Entertainment is fairly low for me because I don’t think I’d like to be travelling much at 65. Probably would like to stay put at one place.

But one thing I’d really spend a lot on though is… FOOD!!!!

So I put some RM2,000 a month just on food for the household.

Now after you’re done putting in how much money you’ll probably be spending after retirement. The next step is for you to add in how much money you have now, how much you earn and whatever other assets you have.
Then you add in some things like the inflation rate you want to take into account and it finally lands you in this last page where it tells you what your number is. As in how much money you need at retirement.
And whether your earnings right now will give you enough money to get there or not.
This screenshot is just for illustration purposes because…. I shy to show people how much I earn and all. I’ll avoid that.

But based on the variables I put in for my lifestyle in the slide bright before this. My number actually is….

I’m so screwed.
I guess this is where retirement plans come in.
Like the PRUretirement accumulator where you get a guaranteed monthly income after retirement and you won’t have to worry about losing any of the money you put into the plan because they have capital protection and they’re all guaranteed (terms and conditions apply, of course). Plus if you kick the bucket within the duration of the plan, they’ll compensate your loved ones with a lump sum of money.
The cost of the plan can be as low as RM100 a month which my insurance agent will like to say “That’s only RM3.33 a day! That’s parking money… and it’s for your future!!!”
And most of us will then say…
“Well if you put it that way…”
Check out the Prudential Retirement Calculator here anyway to find out what your number is and if you’ll meet it. Feel free to share your number in the comments. See if your expected retirement lifestyle is more posh than mine or not … hahaha.

If you’re free there’s also the “What’s Adam’s Number” challenge going on where you figure out Adam’s retirement number and if you guess it right you’ll stand a chance to win a share of RM200,000 worth of prizes. The challenge will run for 4 weeks from 2nd December 2009 and they’ll release new clues each week to help the players get closer to guessing Adam’s number.
So it’s like in Week 1 you get some clues, then you adjust the values into the calculator and you get a bit closer to his number.

Then you wait for Week 2 clues to come out and then you get to put in the additional clues you get.
And eventually you’ll get his actual number.
Adam is a fictional character though. It’s not “code” for “Timothy” ok? You guys already know my number.

Guess where I am… again..

Hey look… I’m in … Venice.

No actually…. in Persia.
Okay… truth is, I’m in Disneyland Tokyo (though those pics were more specifically from Disney Sea). Which explains why “Persia” has a belly dancer that looks just like Minnie Mouse.
As I write this, I’m at the hotel lounge leeching off the wireless internet here with Princess both trying to update our blogs. The room actually has internet for a fair rate of RM35 for every 24 hours but I decided to save the money and just use the free Wi-Fi in the lounge.
Besides, they provide free drinks here anyway.
Yes everyone… right after my Disneyland posts, it looks like there’s going to be another one because just 2 weeks after my trip to Hong Kong Disneyland, I find myself in Disneyland Tokyo.
I’m here on a family trip this time. It’s been a good couple of days.
Going to share some pictures.
1) Went for the “Small World” ride again just 2 weeks after going for the one in Hong Kong.
Took a picture of this “Stroller Park” here.
That’s the number of babies we have in that one ride. It’s so well organized. They have a Disneyland “cast member” who does nothing but organize the strollers that come in and leave so that they’re all nicely packed in one area.
2) Went for the Indiana Jones “Temple of the Crystal Skull”.
At first I thought it was a roller coaster like the one in Disneyland Paris (my I really have been to a lot of Disneylands), but it turns out to be a totally different ride. Wasn’t a scary ride or anything. You just got on to this ‘jeep on tracks’ that took you inside this place.
We all thought it would be a “drop ride” or something. Especially all the way to the end when it came to a dead end and our jeep went down this slope. But… no problem. Wasn’t that scary after all.
3) Speaking of rides, one ride I didn’t want to sit on was the “Tower of Terror”. Now I love rollercoasters. I used to be really afraid of them but I grew to like them after I learned to scream just like everyone else. Before I used to keep quiet the whole ride and that was just torture. But when you scream…. it feels soooo liberating.
So I’ve been to a lot of rollercoaster rides with all sorts of fancy things. Catapults, loops, drops, corkscrews… you name it, I’ve been on them all and I love it!
One thing I don’t like though, are ‘drop rides’ or rides just dedicated to dropping you like a bag of crap. The Tower of Terror is one such ride. See that tall building in the background.

That is the Tower of Terror.
What they do is that you sit on this ride that goes up all the floors in an elevator. Then when you reach the top, it opens a window to see the beautiful Disneyland view from up above and in a split second after that it drops you vertically all the way down.
That to me is just sadistic. I would never go for something like that.
My brother though was conned. He thought it was just a haunted house ride or something so you can imagine his terrifying surprise when the elevator dropped like… I don’t know 10 floors down. I wish I was there just to see the expression on his face. Must’ve been PRICELESS.
He said he would never do it again though.
My cousins were even cuter. They brought my uncle and aunty (their Dad and Mum) on to the ride, apparently also not knowing that it was a “drop ride”.
Then when they were being dropped in the lift my 9 year old cousin later told us that he was thinking to himself
“Uh oh… Dad sure scold us for bringing him on this scary ride. Die lar die lar!”.
4) I did go for the best rollercoaster I could find in the park though. It was called “Raging Spirit” and it involved two fairly decent drops and one big loop. Princess at first was too afraid to go for it eventhough she used to be a rollercoaster junkie herself too in the past.

I guess we all grow old after a while. Haha
I didn’t think the ride was too bad though, so after I went for it I dragged Princess with me for the second time and she enjoyed it. Wasn’t as scary as we thought it would be.
Here’s a picture of part of the ride.
Look closely and you’ll see the rollercoaster doing a loop. It’s upside down right now.
Cool huh. Had to queue for a bit though.
5) Speaking of queuing right… the night before we experienced an epic queue!
Seriously, if one thing among many many things that Disneyland is good for is planning queues for rides such that they maximize every single bit of space that people can queue up on. Like we went for this new Monsters Inc ride where the queue was all the way from the outside, then into a big round room like this.

Then the queue of people goes round and round the entire room in a circle from an outer layer to the inner layer before it exits into another room where the queue extends. We waited like an hour to get on the ride. It wasn’t worth it though… just a simple ride where they take you around and you shine torch lights on the ‘monsters’.
6) Got myself a Disneyland Tokyo Souvenir medallion. A Minnie one. Cost 100 Yen but I saw so many people buying it I felt pressured to buy one myself. Peer pressure.

It comes out of this machine where they stamp a piece of.. uh… copper I think.

7) Watched another Disneyland Parade. Disneyland Parades are just the best. I’m always amazed at how the performers do this every day and can still appear so enthusiastic about their dancing and all that.

8) Met Mr Incredible.
He was with Mrs Incredible who wasn’t in the picture because she was taking a picture with some other people. Right after I took this picture I accidentally walked right into the path of the other people taking a picture with Mrs Incredible totally ruining their shot.
Mrs Incredible then tapped me on a shoulder and wagged her finger at me just like a mother would do scolding her child.
Princess said.. “She is after all a mother”.
9) A picture we took at the Disney Sea globe near the entrance of Disney Sea.

10) And because it’s Christmas, here’s one with the Christmas tree.

I love Disneyland.

I’ve said this so many times before but I’ll say it again and again: It’s the happiest place on Earth.
Ok ok.. after this entry, I promise. No more Disneyland entries for the year. Don’t think I’ll be going to another one again… until next year haha!!! My goal is to visit Disneyland once a year…. providing I manage to save enough money to do so.
Alright… gotta head to bed now guys. Tomorrow I’m going back to Disneyland to face my fears and go for a drop ride they have there called “Splash Mountain”. You know, one of those rides where they drop you on a waterfall.
Will be going into Tokyo city end tomorrow too. Excited!
Good night everyone! Hope you’re all having a great week.

Last Hong Kong Post

By the time you read this post, I would have just reached Japan. I’m over at Japan for a family trip, something that doesn’t happen as often anymore. When we were all young, it was easier to go for family trips. But after a while everyone gets older, married, have kids and a lot of other commitments that it’s quite often really hard to get everyone together at the same time for a family trip.
This year though, we managed to pull it off. So Japan it is.
Will blog more about Japan in time to come but in the mean time I actually spotted some final photos of my recent Hong Kong trip. Will put them up here and tell the little stories behind them.
1) This is Ming and Mike sitting with me in the lobby of Disneyland Hotel.

What happened was that we had dinner at Hollywood Hotel which was right next door to Disneyland Hotel. We took a bus over there but it’s the kind of bus that goes one a one way track. So if you start at A and end up at B. The only way to go back to A again from B is to wait for the bus to go from A—>B—>C—>D—>A.
So after dinner, instead of taking the bus back which would take a whole round, we decided to walk back.
The girls didn’t want to though. Xiaxue was like.. “Ok you guys walk!! KTHXBAI!!!”
and she quickly boarded the bus. Ming then declared
“Okay! You girls take the bus, we guys walk!”
And we all started our walk back to the hotel while the girls boarded the bus. Princess was being competitive (as usual). She said “Wait wait.. you guys cannot walk yet until the bus leaves!”
So anyway when the bus left we started our quick walk back… and realized that it was actually a lot longer of a walk that we thought it would. It was a nice walk though. The weather was cool and the streets were quiet. Had some good man talk on the way. Then while we were in the midst of enjoying ourselves, it suddenly occurred to us that we couldn’t afford to arrive later than the girls.
If we did, the girls would laugh at us and say “HAHA!!! I TOLD YOU GUYS SO!!!”
So we started walking faster… and faster… and we kept reminding ourselves “If the girls get there before we do, we will never hear the end of it!”.
We reached the hotel some time after. The girls hadn’t arrived yet so we lounged around the hotel lobby and took some pictures.

After a long time had passed, the girls still didn’t show up and we began to wonder if they were already upstairs. We joked about how they would come down like 30 minutes later from behind us and say “OI!!! WHAT YOU ALL DOING HERE? WE WAITING FOR YOU GUYS UPSTAIRS FOR SO LONG DI!!!”
But ahh it turned out to be a false alarm. Much much later we saw the girls stroll in. At first they almost had a look of victory in their faces as they couldn’t see us. Then we jumped out in front of them and went “HAHA!!!”
Ahh what a night.

2) Spent the rest of the night down in Mong Kok in Hong Kong.
HK has got to be one of the most crowded places on earth. It just scares me. Like how you can walk on streets that are just in between skyscrapers that go way up high so it looks as if you’re walking inside the Grand Canyon or something… only with concrete buildings instead of rocks.
Met up with my Hong Kong friend there. Remember Eddie?

3) We had breakfast at the Enchanted Garden again the next morning. Took some pictures with the Disney characters.
Princess, Mickey and me.

Ming and I with Minnie.
This is Pluto sayanging Ming.
and here’s me making friends with Goofey.
4) After breakfast, Andrew took us out for lunch.
Andrew is a friend of mine who moved to Hong Kong from Malaysia after he married his HK wife. He’s this really really funny guy who finds a reason to joke about everything but this trip I saw another side of him.
He now has a cute little son and I noticed he had changed… to a father.

Like he drives a minivan and you’ll see him taking the pram out of the car for his little son and then putting it back after they’re done. All the change is for a good reason though.
All for this cute little boy.

Ahh… that’s where I’ll be in a few years I hope. More like a father… less like a young adult.
5) Final shot here is me at my room balcony.

Among all of us there, Princess and I were the lucky ones with a balcony to our rooms. Ming couldn’t get over it… he couldn’t get over not having the best room HAHA!.
I’d sit outside there sometimes during the weekend and hear the Disney music play all around the hotel. So relaxing… and makes you feel soo happy.
Okay guys.
I’ll blog about Japan soon. Have a great week ahead.

Taylor’s Open Day at their new Lakeside Campus

Advertorial
Remember some time last year when I visited Taylor’s College new Sri Hartamas Campus? Remember how nice it was?

Well this year they’ve decided to do something even better. Something that I have been hearing some people talk about for a while.
They’ve opened up their grand 27-acre Lakeside Campus which is around a 5-acre lake. A FREAKING 5-ACRE LAKE!
If I had to guess, the glass building on the left is the pride and joy of their campus: their 4-storey library that overlooks the lake. Must be nice for studying.

The campus also includes a Multipurpose Hall, 300 pax lecture halls, an outdoor Amphitheatre, multi service sports centre, gymnasium and swimming pool.

What I think is cool though, is that they’ve built it to be an “eco-friendly” campus with the natural coolings systems and ventilated spaces.
Anyway the whole point of this entry is to invite any of you potential students to check out Taylor’s University College new Lakeside Campus at the Open Day happening on the 11-13th of December between 10AM-5PM.

They’ve got quite a bit of things lined up for the day like getting the Emmanuel Stroobant (The Chef In Black from the Asian Food Channel)

to cook something for everyone to try and Asha Gill from Lonely Planet. I remember Asha from my teenage days when I used to watch Channel V. All my friends used to talk about how hot and sexy she was…. Then she got married and broke the hearts of an army of teenager boys.

Open Days are like the kind of things you would go for if you’re not sure what to do after school. I was like that once. Out of school, had no idea what I wanted to do but I guess I wanted to be in finance since my whole family was in finance. So I just studied economics, accounting, stuff like that.

What I did realize later on though was that there was a lot more than that. This Open Day allows you to check out different fields to see what you’d like to do and if Taylor’s University College is the right place for you. Explore the different things you could do for a living. Whether it’s bring an engineer, a marketer, a hotel manager or even a professional gamer. Haha no I was kidding about the professional gamer part. You don’t need to study a course for that, you just need DEDICATION, DETERMINATION, HARD WORK and glasses because by the time you become good enough to be one, you’re gonna need a pair.

Why do you think I wear glasses?

It wasn’t because I was doing research on how to split the atom. It was because of those damn games that still haunt me today.

DAMN YOU CALL OF DUTY MODERN WARFARE!!!

Oh anyway anyway.. back to topic if you’d like to check out Taylor’s Open Day @ Lakeside Campus, click here.

Maybe one day you could play XBOX gam….. I mean… work hard in an internet company like me. *heh heh*
